Shared Account, Breeders' Cup winner, retired

Shared Account, the winner of the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, has been retired and will be bred in 2012, trainer Graham Motion said on Wednesday.

Shared Account finished seventh in the BC Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4, the final start of a career of 6 wins in 18 starts. She earned $1,649,427.

Thanks Ger that is interesting that he was owned by Darley, but is retired to Journeyman, I wonder if Darley sold him outright or has retained a controlling interest in him and if he does well at stud they can choose to move him to KY.

Happy for Shared Account, she's five and has done alot so I think it's nice for her.

At five I would rather they retire than continue racing.  have seen to many mares continue racing only to get hurt.

Why don't they make em like they used to - when they could race till 6 or 7 and be ok.

Hmmmm, could it be the "breed for speed instead of stamina" philosophy that seems to pervade the industry?
