The market is saturated with stallions though - and lots of stallions that should be geldings.  There are 12 other sons of Tale of the Cat standing in the US and Tale of the Cat himself still stands.  Ranging from $500 to $20,000 stud fees.

Danzig ran 3 times but also won 3 times.
Malibu Moon is not the typical example - he had great breeding and got good mares from the get go (Overdriven will not get the kinds of mares Malibu Moon got his first few years at stud)
Tapit at least ran 6 times including 2 X at 2.  He won the Wood Memorial and when he went to stud, he was 1 of only 7 sons of Pulpit at stud worldwide.  He technically retired sound.

That said, maybe Overdriven will surprise me... but I doubt it.  He was injured as a 2 yr old and sat out, came back for 1 race and was injured again only to be retired.  Not the epitome of soundness (meaning, is there unsoundness on the dam's side?  She ran 11 times but stopped mid year as a 3 yr old)  Yes, sh*t happens and horses get injured - but the fact that he ran twice, was injured, ran once, was injured again does not scream "sound" to me.

You know being used as a rabbit has to do something to a horse's psyche and you wonder what he might have done if raced elsewhere.

It's going to be really interesting to follow how his runners do here.  I knew there was interest to have him come over here but I really didn't think it would happen.

He was sidelined for most of his short career.  I don't like seeing horses retired at the end of their 3yo year.  Let them prove themselves at four and five and then see if they are worthy to contribute to the breed or if they need a new career.  Some horses you maybe can justify it (early to stud) if they are outstanding and there are other circumstances that might justify it but not a horse with a short resume like this.

Exactly.  I think he would have been a very good racehorse if given the right chances.

Exactly my thoughts.  Some it can be justified, but with Overdriven?  I just don't see it.

I hope she goes out a winner in the Sunshine Millions F&M Turf - she won it in January this year!  That will be her last race in 2013 I believe.

I think she will be a good mom.

I forgot to post that article earlier today....nice to see how they care for her, although a couple weeks between races gives me pause, but she has done it the old school way and is sound. Hoping she wins the last two races, and has a long and healthy retirement being a mom!
