His build, his stride - just spectacular.  The perfect fiery strong willed and strong limbed Thoroughbred born to run.

New article...and first photo one I had never seen before.

“As near to a living flame as horses get, and horses get closer to this than anything else. It was not merely that he smashed his opposition, sometimes by a hundred lengths, or that he set world records or that he cared not a Tinker’s Curse for weight, or track, or horses.

Man o’ War, loose in his paddock at Faraway, dug in as if the prince of all the fallen angels was at his throatlatch, and great chunks of sod sailed up behind the haunches of power. Watching, you felt that there had never been, nor could ever be again, a horse like this.”

He was a magnificant horse wasn't he? Totally proportioned in his body, all heart in his races, just stunning!

I loved reading through the comments.  Found this there -

...his enduring genes are still very much prevalent in today's champions (22 connections in American Pharoah's pedigree, 23 in Arrogate's and 23 in Justify's.....far more than any other stallion in these lineages). Whenever I see Man o’ War in a pedigree, I am reminded of this powerful anonymous ode:

“Hold your strength till the barriers fly, then close with the leaders eye to eye.
Thundering hooves and the mad jammed race, blood in the nostrils, sweat in the face.

And children, remember wherever you are, you carry the blood of Man o’ War.”

Loved going through those images today.  There were several I had not seen before, mainly the photos of Man o' War as a youngster.  The one with Mahubah in the photo was exciting to see!

Is always interesting that his birthday is March 29 and Secretariat is March 30.  So Happy Birthday Secretariat, also.

Happy Birthday too, Cindy.  I will have to go back and read the comments;  so glad you mentioned them.  What a powerful poem to Man o' War.
