Yes, but they need that money to purchase and develop the site. 

The Bears will need to find a partner to help them build the stadium (probably a company who will get the naming rights).

But 84 Million to buy out the lease isn’t that much when you consider the $$ a new stadium will bring in for them.

Once upon a time Balmoral ran flat races, then switched over to harness. It closed and was sold to a horse show event company, which did run for 2 years before moving to a northern Illinois site. Barns have been completely redone and track could easily be installed again as they didn’t change much of it, so it could be used for that again. But, it is in Crete, Illinois and Will County, so not viable under law for Cook County.:(.   Only 15 min from my house….

I think it was sold to a group that wanted to return it to harness with casino. But, it seems some of those partners have had some questionable experiences in other endeavors, if you catch my drift. And because it has to be approved/checked with the government, it’s not been approved.
