Chet Baker, in full Chesney Henry Baker: American jazz trumpeter and vocalist noted for the plaintive, fragile tone of both his playing and singing.
He was a cult figure whose well-publicized struggles with drug addiction curtailed a promising career.
He played in U.S. Army bands during two stints as a soldier (1946–48 and 1950–52) and sat in with jazz groups in the San Francisco area during the early ’50s, often playing alongside Charlie Parker.

- Chet Baker quotes:
"I don't believe that jazz will ever really die. It's a nice way to express yourself."

Chet Baker was right on:, he also said:
" In Europe they look upon jazz as art. In America it's a diversion. Somebody opens a restaurant and installs another band off to the side. People don't listen."
17-May
'People said I'd never make 35, then I'd never make 40, 45; now I'm almost 50, so I'm beginning to think maybe they might be wrong.'
-- Chet Baker
