President Joe Biden said on Wednesday he had approved an executive order paving the way for new U.S. sanctions on Myanmar generals after the military detained elected leaders and seized power on Feb. 1.

And it's escalating nastily in Myanmar. I wrote that it was a Buddhist country and demos would be peaceful, but it appears the army and the police are being ordered to come down hard on demonstrations and opposition.
Of course that may take the authorities minds off the insurgencies that have been fighting for independence for decades. Of course the Generals don't have to worry about Rakhine State since they forced the Muslim minority to flee to Bangladesh.
