Immigration Reform   America - all of it

... Nowhere is sentimentalism more rampant than in immigration policy. Even before Donald Trump ran for president, among progressives a growing moral consensus held that borders were at best inefficient and at worst, gravely immoral. How is it fair that  some people may live in rich, safe nations,  while others are trapped in poor, dangerous ones simply by accident of birth? Modern progressivism lacks the intellectual scaffolding to even answer that question. Four years of a Trump presidency hardened  the new consensus into dogma. Bill Clinton may have bragged about curbing illegal immigration and Barack Obama may have  voted to build a border fence. But in 2021,  the de facto Democratic position is that America’s borders are an abomination.

This leaves President Biden more hobbled than Obama ever was in fixing the situation at the border. Thanks to Biden’s policies, soon there will be countless new arrivals, claiming to fear violence in their home countries, and bringing along young children, whether related, accompanied or neither. If his party believes that mere poverty creates a valid asylum claim, that real borders are morally illegitimate, that minors must be admitted immediately, that families must never be separated and that ICE must be defanged or abolished, what can Biden do besides let everybody in?

President Biden will have to find the courage to resist his own party’s new ideology, or the border crisis of his first months could turn into the defining problem of his entire presidency.

Personally, Jennifer, I'm for posting signs at the Mexican border warning people 'Trespassers will be shot'.

Given America's gun culture, it's sadly true.

What you don't appear to be grasping is the fact that many of these people are fleeing starvation, violence and murder in the hopes of getting asylum in America.

So, they would still come and take a chance at getting shot, because they know for certain they're going to die if they stay where they are.

People knew they would be shot at when trying to get over the Berlin wall. They still tried it.

Almost none face real danger, certainly nothing worse than living in an American city!

These so-called 'refugees' are coached and have their lines well memorized before they reach the border.

Hold on, so - to be clear.  You are saying that any member of a MS-13 gang is of no real danger, and no worse than anything you would encounter living in an American city?

Well then, open up the border and let them all in!  After all, it's not like they rape and kill people.

And it's not like they have any victims fleeing for their lives.

And how big IS the drug trade in South America, anyway?

Pfft.  Actors.

The Border issue will be IMO Joe Biden's 'WATERLOO'.  He sent the Welcome message during that first presidential debate and the entire world took notice.  It's not just the Mexicans assembling at the border.  They're coming from Asia and Africa also.

Mothers are pushing their kids over the border, unaccompanied, for our border agents to deal with.  Here in Texas busloads of kids R making their way into the Convention center.

Elsewhere at the border some migrants are just pushing themselves in and are mingling all over this country.

Joe and his Press Secret can call the border crisis a challenge all they want.  The handwriting is on the wall.

And, now it appears that nosy Newsies/reporters will not be permitted to observe.

Sorry, Jennifer, this emotional outburst does nothing to solve the problem.   JRA has just posted more relevant details.

When will 'liberals' see that there is a problem?   When their own house is broken into?

And now we even have this covid thing.   Eight percent of the over 100,000 illegal aliens who crossed the border last month tested positive for it.   Yet 'liberals' want lockdowns?!!

I want the signs up as soon as possible:  Trespassers will be shot.

What do Canadian white supremacists like you gain by shooting at Americans?

I still come back to the fact that my approach causes much less harm than what we are witnessing right now.  And if allowed to continue, things will get worse.   That is a guarantee.

You may think border patrols keeping masses of people moving to overwhelm the border is not something we should even bother thinking about.   Just let them come through and catch their ride to wherever they've been told their destination will be.  Many will be sex slaves; others will just be slaves; everyone:  employers (if they somehow find actual paid work), landlords, even fellow immigrants, will exploit them.

Meanwhile wages will remain stagnant for those already here.  It's odd to see so many blacks onside with open borders.   Illegal immigration depresses the labour market in exactly the same jobs that blacks most often go into and are they are therefore very often in direct competition.   And anyway, there's certainly no love lost between Hispanics and African Americans.

What about legal immigrants?   Should the people who went through the process of multiple forms, applications, consultants and lawyers, meetings and mailings, and all the other hoops which they've jumped through for many years just be told that, 'Sorry, you we're just a fool.  You could have simply walked in.'

I haven't even gotten to the most important part, which is cultural.  I'll leave that for another day.
