Read the judgement summary issued by the High Court of Australia after it overturned George Pell's sexual abuse convictions.

I don't know what to believe - but the most obvious conclusion is that juries are really not very good and convict quite a lot of innocent people. We can discuss that.

Moreover, it shocks me that (at least in the UK) we continue to lock people up and not keep them safe. I don't know how you people do it, but people apparently come out of our prisons as heroin addicts and members of crime gangs.

(BM regularly barges angrily in to jeer at my using the word "apparently" - but his own respect for the truth is so abysmal that I almost feel like jeering back).

Why don't they just do away with juries altogether?

It would be a lot more efficient!

I'd rather have this discussion in sober times, not when Oz has just released a bishop from a death sentence.

Speaking to Sky News, Cardinal George Pell warns against the unjust and inappropriate approach of regarding all accusations as gospel truth.

As I said, released from a death sentence.

I think it was a wrongful prosecution - the word of one person over behaviour years ago.

But I've adjusted my first reaction "Juries probably get it wrong a lot" to "money talks".

Incidentally, looking at my old messages I was aware of the threat of an epidemic and I thought it was a bigger risk than a meteor strike. But not as likely as the Zionists blowing us all up.

Cardinal Pell.

Berry replied = epidemic, Meteor strikes and of course ZIONISTS - can you see any reasonable no matter how tenuous link between some dirty old bugger and Meteors or even Jews and Zionists  ?

Oh, he thinks he predicted Covid-19 and he's over-excited.

Bless him.

To my distress, I cannot find any posting I've ever made suggesting that epidemic was the most immediate (and maybe most dangerous?) threat we were facing.

The threat of WMD (ie nuclear) was difficult to judge since Israel was the nation most likely to be bomb us, but I couldn't be sure how likely that really was. The likelihood of Meteor strike/tsunami etc was far behind.

I'm sure I was 100% right and far-sighted and clear-sighted in that regard, but the only mention of epidemics I can find concern genocidal outbreaks in Gaza.

And pointing out that Anne Frank was a victim of the Holocaust even though she died of disease and neglect after Nazis dragged her from her home and stuffed into a prison camp. You can genocidally kill people by neglect the same as with bullets.
