The phone call that ended a $2 million fraud lasted less than five minutes This private college reaped $2 million from students. But it never taught a single class.

20 years ago the British Embassy in Moscow was involved in a scam of this kind.

Russians were handing over big sums to "agents" of English language schools in Oxford and the Embassy was giving them visas to come here.

Anyone ever prosecuted?

I don't know, I knew it was going on and - bizarre though it may seem now - I thought not much of it and certainly didn't think or know to have it uncovered.

I worry that, under Boris, there'll be much more of that kind of thing.

When Jane Smith invested $670,000 to boost her retirement savings, it was flushed into a river of cash flowing out of Australia into the pockets of criminals.

Sad business.

Fake investment offers in cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin, are becoming more popular, resulting in record losses in 2019, according to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

Bitcoin is genuine - but almost anyone using it is doing something illegal.

And even simple investors in it have been burned multiple times because their "wallets" disappear.

2020 is off to a chaotic start, but locking down your online privacy is still vital.

Not only does Mossad have all my details - its agents are going round publishing them, in here and elsewhere.
