There's no argument over providing meals during the holidays for children who normally receive free school meals. The Government is in favour and the local authorities are in favour. It's merely a question of who pays for it. Personally I think the Gov should just add the cash to the grant they give to local authorities to pay for free school meals during term time.

The worst case scenario presented by Gov scientists a month ago, was widely dissed by much of the press as alarmist. Johnson bought in to some of it and introduced a 3 tier response system. The problem is that whilst new cases seem fairly static at around 21000 a day, the Office of National Statistics who do their own testing of a large sample of the population, have just reported that 100,000 people a day are catching the virus. (Obviously most were asymptomatic or very mild cases.) However, the danger is that with numbers that high, the disease will spread to the more vulnerable and hospitalisations, ICU occupancy and death rates will go through the roof.
We're not closing schools, colleges or universities and people will still be able to go to work if their place of work is safe and we'll still be able to go out for exercise as long as we stay in household groups or go alone. I hope that a month is enough to bring down the numbers. I fear it won't be.
