Here's another thing to keep in mind - I don't know how trustworthy your media is, but ours is about as dirty as it gets - both sides write what they think their audience wants to see.  There is no attempt at journalism in the sense of reporting the news.  As an example:  the Washington Post reported that current acting director of national intelligence Joseph Maguire had threatened to resign if the Trump administration stopped him from speaking freely before Congress about the whistleblower complaint.  According to Mr. Maguire, that was a complete and total lie.

The US is already so divided.  Trump is not the cause of this, rather a symptom of a much bigger, worldwide, problem.  And he certainly is an agitator.

But this will completely dominate the news until November 2020.  There will be no policy review, no debate, no scrutiny over the issues key to a good government.

It will just be a long and bitter shoutfest that will tear the US apart.

What is in the report?

Broadly, in the July phone call with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, President Trump "sought to pressure the Ukranian leader" to:

  • "initiate or continue an investigation into the activities of former Vice President Joseph Biden"
  • "assist in purportedly uncovering that allegations of Russian interference in the 2016 US presidential election originated in Ukraine"
  • "Meet or speak with two people the President explicitly named as his personal envoys on these matters"

Those two people are the President's lawyer, Rudy Guiliani, and the US Attorney General William Barr.

These allegations are all consistent with the account of the phone call released yesterday.

But the whistleblower includes a few more details that are newsworthy:

  • Other officials, including White House officials, were also "deeply disturbed by what transpired in the phone call"
  • White House lawyers were briefed on the call and directed officials "to 'lock down' all records of the phone call." They removed the electronic transcript of the call from the computer system where transcripts are normally stored (and this was "not the first time under this administration" that a Presidential transcript was placed into a secure system "solely for the purpose of protecting politically sensitive — rather than national security sensitive — information.'')
  • The day after the call, a US Representative met with Mr Zelenskiy and his team to discuss how to "navigate the demands that the President made of Mr Zelenskiy"
  • Mr Guiliani traveled to Madrid to meet with one of Mr Zelenskiy's advisers "as a direct follow-up to the President's call"

If trump is to be impeached, 20 republican out of 53 in the  Senate will have to vote against Trump. Seems unlikely.

I honestly think the general public is so tired of "investigations" that they will ignore them.  Rather than dividing the country further, my feeling is it is uniting the majority in an "oh geez, just start doing your job" kind of way.

Sections of a so-called whistleblower’s complaint alleging President Donald Trump was “using the power of his office to solicit interference from a foreign country” in the 2020 presidential race relies upon a self-described investigative journalism organization bankrolled massively by billionaire activist George Soros.

The complainer admits, “I was not a direct witness to most of the events described.” Still, the so-called whistleblower goes on to allege that Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

URGENT URGENT AND YOU KNOW HE WILL. CALL CONGRESS: PREVENT TRUMP FROM TRYING TO HIDE BEHIND ANOTHER WAR AND USING IRAN TO AVOID IMPEACHMENT. This is an easy call - they do everything for you. Some suggested words : "The Defense Spending bill ought to include language which specifically forbids going to war against Iran or any other nation without a formal and complete declaration of war by the fully assembled Congress of the United States."

If Trump were to get his way, this war would be one we really regret. Hundreds of thousands of our troops would die senselessly. Millions of Iranians would be murdered. And yes Trump wants it to be a nuclear war, - yes he really is that stupid.
