When major forces such as the US or Russia vacate a given region the void will be filled by their opponents who will claim victory .

Oh Joe, what have you done?  It's pretty clear you don't give a damn about the people that live there.

Trump wanted to get them out.  He praised Biden's decision.  Are they equally as apathetic?

Most Americans didn't want us to be there in the first place.  Unfortunately our dear leaders apparently didn't understand 1) Afghani's don't want us there; 2) Russia was routed by very less-armed, less-advanced guerrilla warfare.  Why on earth our military didn't understand the same would happen to us, we will never know.

Now that we've been "keeping the peace" for what, 12 years now, I don't know if the population of Afghanistan want us to remain, in hopes that our troops will be protection from insurgents, or do they consider us insurgents.

I personally want all of our troops to come home.  Maybe someone on this forum with a more in-depth explanation of why we are there in the first place and why we should stay there, could better answer your question (BM100?.
