The protests might help.

As long as they stay peaceful... so probably not.

Myanmar has a long history of peaceful protest, as befits a Buddhist country.

President Joe Biden said on Wednesday he had approved an executive order paving the way for new U.S. sanctions on Myanmar generals after the military detained elected leaders and seized power on Feb. 1.

And it's escalating nastily in Myanmar. I wrote that it was a Buddhist country and demos would be peaceful, but it appears the army and the police are being ordered to come down hard on demonstrations and opposition.

Of course that may take the authorities minds off the insurgencies that have been fighting for independence for decades. Of course the Generals don't have to worry about Rakhine State since they forced the Muslim minority to flee to Bangladesh.

At least it should take pressure off those groups that have been fighting for years for independence.

Australia calls on security forces to refrain from violence after shots are fired to disperse protesters as mass demonstrations continue following the arrest of leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

We know how these things end. If the people continue to protest peacefully, then there will be a false flag attack to give the military an excuse to crack down hard. It's what the Burmese generals did to the Rohingya in Rakhine Province which ended with the Rohingya being forced to flee to Bangladesh.

It's a standard ploy to gain or retain power, used by autocrats the world over.
