Turkey's President slaps down a call from Donald Trump for a ceasefire in north-eastern Syria.

Very reluctantly I'm on Turkey's side on this one.

Those 3.4 refugees cannot be allowed to stay in Turkey, they must go back to Syria.

This is the same policy that Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt should have taken in 1948.

The immediate suffering of the victims (and in this case, creating new ones) may be very great but the cost of not doing this is devastating to any chance of a functioning society.

As far as I know the refugees in Turkey do not feel safe to return to Syria , they are not being stopped by either Turkey or Syria but simply do not feel safe under the present conditions in Syria , that numb nuts agrees with Erdogan is irrelevant, has anybody asked the refugees what they want ?

They cannot be allowed to fester in Turkey, the way the Palestinians have festered all over the Middle East.

The Syrian refugees DO NOT want to return to a land where there is war and a leader who is a butcher

Why did about 1 million come to Germany ?

I'm forced to conclude that Erdogan is right on this one - at least, on sending the refugees back to Syria where they came from. (Whether it was right or necessary to attack the Kurds, I don't know.)

Meanwhile, its a huge shame and threat to the world that Erdogan treatment of the Syrian refugees wasn't done to the Palestinians.

Trump is now going through the standard stages of a breakup.

Now he is declaring the Kurds are worse terrorists than ISIS.

Trump's decisions were very poor on many levels and they are coming back to haunt him , I am sure he is sure he is right about everything I am sure he is not and I am also very sure there is much more to this than an ad hoc decision to pull back what is no more than a few hundred men , there is possibly some trade off with Putin over something else which is not being seen here but possibly related to Iran (Iran vex's Putin because it creates battle zones in Syria between Israel and Iran which is not in the Russian Interest)

So I am guessing there is more than meets the eye - or Trump is even more stupid than he is given credit for

Let's face it, giving the Kurds a homeland is something so firmly implanted in the "too hard basket", that he likely feels deserting an ally and facing the backlash is easier.

The Kurds already have a de facto homeland the Turks want to dislodge them the Syrians would leave them alone , the Russians don't care and the Iranians don't like them or trust them, Israel has a deep connections with them and will support them

As for Trump he is befuddled by Syria he should have left it to the Military who were doing a good job of doing nothing but keeping warring factions apart , now you have ISIL as I predicted in the game again, you have Syria moving troops to confront Turkey and Russia trying to keep two of their partners apart , Iran wants to build bases and Israel is conducting a non stop campaign against them

Figure that out and you have done well
