It is very confusing but the core of the problem in Ukraine is the growing anti Russian sentiment by the nationalist Ukrainians.

Russians used to make up 40% of the population but many have left and the remaining 30% are starting to suffer. Meanwhile, Americans and US corporations are profiting through connections to people in high places.

The US gives billions to Ukraine to which Victoria Nuland calls supporting democracy. Millions of those billions return to the US via American investors. It is the fear of those American investors of losing their investments that cause the outrage in the white house.
