Yes, it explains how humans got there. There's a tendency to think that as sea levels are now, that's how they've always been.

Britain is currently separated from continental Europe by the North Sea and the English Channel. Both are relatively recent and we know that at the end of the last Ice Age, people could not only walk across Doggerland from continental Europe, but also made their homes there. It disappeared under rising sea levels about 8000 years ago.
