Media Must Report Truth Of Anti-Trump Spy Operation Before It’s Too Late For Them

As facts about the Obama administration's spying and leaking are spilling out, media have a brief window of opportunity to salvage some credibility.

As new details emerge about the Obama administration’s broad spying-and-leaking campaign against the incoming Trump administration, reporters have a choice to make about whether to cover this story honestly, at long last. There is a brief window of time afforded the media to get the story right. They should take advantage of it.

Journalist Lee Smith already noted the seriousness of the problem facing legacy media after the implosion of the Russia collusion conspiracy theory they peddled. “Americans still want and need accurate information on which to base their decisions about their own lives and the path that the country should take. But neither the legacy media nor the expert class it sustains is likely to survive the post-dossier era in any recognizable form,” he wrote. “For them, Russiagate is an extinction level event.”

Many of our supposedly smart media elites are dinosaurs who are completely unaware of the asteroid headed right to them. Instead, they are doing their part in an all-hands-on-deck effort to continue pushing out Democratic talking points that got them into the mess. This week, that meant they regurgitated the Democratic claim that the Obama administration’s spying and leaking was “normal” and that to be concerned about it is nothing more than a “distraction.”

The Media Are in Too Deep

The less deft at pushing out the partisan talking point include MSNBC’s Brian Williams, who literally asked implicated former CIA chief John Brennan if he could “once and for all” explain to people who had heard about the scandal despite his corporation’s best efforts why it was no big deal. Josh Marshall of Talking Points Memo complained that a biased NBC News piece that itself attempted to wave away the scandal was not biased enough for his liking. The Daily Beast’s Sam Stein begged Axios not to cover the issue lest it help Trump, in the way that covering Hillary Clinton’s email scandal may have helped Trump.

Susan Glasser at the New Yorker suggested that acknowledging the Obama administration’s recorded attempts to undermine a duly elected administration through spying and leaking was a form of political agitprop. Her husband Peter Bake

John Brennan and the Plot to Overthrow the U.S. Government

Let’s talk about John Brennan a bit. You remember John Brennan. He was Barack Obama’s director of the CIA. Once upon a time, he was an enthusiast for Gus Hall, the Communist candidate for president, for whom he voted in 1976. I can’t think of any better background for the head of the country’s premier intelligence service under Obama. In 2014, having put childish things behind him as St. Paul advisedBrennan spied on the Senate Intelligence Committee. He denied it indignantly. “Nothing could be further from the truth. We wouldn’t do that. That’s just beyond the scope of reason in terms of what we’d do.”

But that was before irrefutable evidence of the CIA’s spying transpired. Then Brennan apologized, sort of. Senators were outraged. They shook their little fists. “What did he know? When did he know it? What did he order?” asked one of the Lilliputians.

Guess what happened to John Brennan for spying on the Senate Intelligence Committee?

If you said “Nothing,” go to the head of the class and collect your gold star.

Nothing happened to Brennan for spying on U.S. senators.

If he could get away with that, what else could he get away with?

How about starting the bogus investigation into fictional “collusion” or “coordination” between the Russians and the campaign, and then the administration, of Donald Trump? How about that?

In Ball of Collusion: The Plot to Rig an Election and Destroy a Presidency, former Assistant U.S. Attorney Andrew McCarthy offers a meticulously researched overview of the origins and character of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into possible links between Trump and the Russians. That began in May 2017, shortly after Trump fired James Comey from his post as Director of the FBI. McCarthy also looks carefully at the background to that investigation, operation “Crossfire Hurricane” and several tributary investigations into possible Russian collusion with various U.S. persons and entities. Crossfire Hurricane began on July 31, 2016, about three months before the presidential election.

Was that the beginning of the Obama Administration’s inquiry into Donald Trump’s possible connections with “the Russians”? No, the inquiries begin even earlier. You may remember the excited article in the New York Times, “How the Russia Inquiry Began,” from December 20, 2017. According to this story, it all started in London in May 2016. It was a dark-and-stormy night—or at least a night of “heavy drinking”—when “George Papadopoulos, a young foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign, made a startling revelation to [Alexander Downer] Australia’s top diplomat in Britain: Russia had political dirt on Hillary Clinton.” (In fact, the “heavy drinking” consisted of “a couple of gins and tonic,

This is a somewhat coherent explanation of Obamagate. It is at the 12 minute mark.

Obamagate Must Result in Criminal Prosecutions

During an appearance with Lawrence O’Donnell on The Last Word a few days agoa caller asked Joe Biden a very interesting and ironically appropriate question: “Would you be willing to commit to the ideal that no one is above the law?” Because the question had been framed in the context of Gerald Ford’s pardon of Richard Nixon and Biden was being asked if he would pardon President Trump after being elected, without really thinking, he jumped at the opportunity to boldly proclaim that no one is above the law and said, Yes!”

For once in his life, Biden had blurted out an instinctive and obvious truth, and those words may eventually come back to haunt him. During his very last days as vice president, Biden unmasked General Michael Flynn and by a very strange coincidence, it happened to be the very same day Flynn’s name was leaked to the media. In the unlikely event Biden had some legitimate reason for unmasking Flynn at the time, it’s improbable that he would remember what that reason might have been, more than three years later. Leaking Flynn’s name is a felony punishable by up to ten years in prison.

The moral of the story is be careful what you wish for, because you might get it. The United States is a republic formed by democratic vote, not a monarchy. We elect a president, not a king. Politicians are not royalty. The problem with the question was that it began with the assumption that President Trump committed some sort of crime that would require a pardon to avoid prison. However, after a Mueller investigation that dragged on for a couple of years without revealing any crimes by Trump and an absurd impeachment by the House based on political mud slung by the Democrats using the Steele dossier (which they bought), but no conviction, the American people now know that Trump isn’t guilty of anything.

Nixon never got that far in the process -- he resigned before impeachment to avoid a trial. The caller should have asked Joe Biden a different question: when President Trump is re-elected in November, do you think there’s a snowball’s chance in hell that he might pardon you?

Not long ago Dan Rather tweeted, “Watching President Obama’s graduation address tonight I think I finally understand Obamagate. It’s the scandal of having a president being able to speak with empathy, humor, insight, inspiration, and in complete and coherent sentences.”

Nope, that’s not it, Dan. Not even close. You just don’t get it, but that’s only because you haven’t done your job as a journalist. The problem is that you and your compadres in the lamestream media have never tried to understand the political spy scandal now becoming popularly known as Obamagate.

A reporter recently asked White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany what crimes had allegedly been committed during the Obamagate scandal. The question struck me as weird because I thought that journalists normally investigated that sort of thing themselves, rather than asking to be spoon-fed by press secretaries.  McEnany did an outstanding job ignoring the “gotcha” potential of the question and rattled off a number of crimes connected to the case against Flynn, which included Andrew McCabe for leaking to the Wall Street Journal and lying about it, and James Clapper and John Brennan for both lying to Congress under oath. I’ve previously explained why Obamagate is exponentially worse than Watergate, but I’ll repeat a key point that I made over a year ago: Watergate (the gold standard for scandals) was wrong because members of Richard Nixon’s administration used former CIA operatives to break into the Democratic National Committee’s headquarters for the purposes of spying on the campaign of George McGovern.

Obama’s De Facto Russian Collusion Co-Conspirators

The release of both the sworn testimony of those involved in creating and disseminating the Russia collusion hoax and the documentation outlining how General Flynn was framed has confirmed that President Obama was fully involved in and aware of the treasonous effort to use the power of government to undermine the Trump campaign, marginalize the Trump presidency, and destroy General Flynn.

The most astounding aspect of this entire sorry spectacle is that in a nation with a 244-year history of constitutional republicanism and a free press, a President and his confederates felt so emboldened that they orchestrated what amounts to an attempted coup in what is undoubtedly the greatest political scandal in American history.

So certain were the Obama collaborators they would not only succeed in emasculating President Trump, but they would never be held accountable that one of the prime collaborators, James Clapper, Obama’s Director of National Intelligence, unabashedly revealed to Anderson Cooper of CNN in July of 2018 the following (which was completely ignored and buried by the mainstream media):

If it weren’t for President Obama, we might not have done the intelligence community assessment that we did that set up a whole sequence of events which are still unfolding today, including Special Counsel (Robert) Mueller’s investigation.  President Obama is responsible for that.  It was he who tasked us to do that intelligence community assessment in the first place.

Reading between the lines, Obama not only ordered the review but would have been fully aware of the use of the Steele Dossier.  A totally fabricated document which was the pretext and sole basis of the intelligence assessment, FISA applications and the justification for the Mueller investigation.

President Obama, as he has done throughout his political career, tacitly encouraged his aides and minions to leak to their accomplices in the media any negative, and oftentimes fabricated, whispers about his political rivals.   The Obama Administration holdovers in the new Trump Administration, having been steeped in this duplicity, would also be part of the grand strategy of marginalizing President Trump utilizing an incessant drumbeat of fabricated leaks about Russia, collusion, and Trump’s supposed ineptitude in order to frame public opinion and intimidate the Republicans in Congress.

During the entirety of the Obama presidency, the Republicans and the mainstream media never held him to account for any scandals that presaged the Russia collusion imbroglio. These include the Fast and Furious cover-up, the use of government agencies to spy on various reporters and news outlets, illegally hacking into the computers in the Senate in order to snoop on and intimidate various senators, and the IRS targeting of conservative organizations in order to undermine their voice in elections.

Obama Administration Cabinet, July 2012

The egregious, overt and illegal attempt to obliterate Donald Trump and subvert the Constitution was conceived and put into motion by President Obama and his fellow perpetrators because they felt certain that a feckless Republican Party would never fully probe Obama’s motives or actions.   Additionally, Obama was confident a sycophantic mainstream media would never seriously investigate a conspiracy initiated by him, whom they idolized, and they would, in fact, abet the plot to destroy Donald Trump, whom they loathed.

Since 1989 and the election of George H.W. Bush, a majority of Republicans elected to national office have chosen to worship the twin gods of civility and compromise rather than vigorously defend and promote liberty, free enterprise and limited government.  Meanwhile, their political adversaries, the Democratic Party and the Left (now one and the same) had no such compunctions, as they were determined to achieve their ends regardless of the means.

In conjunction with their accomplices in the mainstream media, Democrats quickly ascertained that any outrageous accusation on their part, such as that Republicans are determined to starve children, would eventuate in the near complete surrender of any opposition to their proposed policies.  Further, rather than support their colleagues in the Party who were oftentimes the victims of specious and malicious accusations, the spineless elites in the Republican Party willingly sacrificed their members on the altar of civility and faux integrity.

On the other hand, in an effort to show a willingness to “compromise” when in control of either or both Houses of Congress, the Republicans inevitably slow-walked or initiated cursory investigations of any Democrat wrongdoing.

The recently released sworn testimony of Obama’s collaborators, wherein to a person they admit there was no Russian collusion, took place when the Republicans controlled the House of Representatives.  Yet, with this testimony in-hand, Speaker Paul Ryan and Chairman Trey Gowdy publicly proclaimed the FBI and various intelligence agencies did nothing wrong and refused any request by other Republicans on the investigative committees to issue subpoenas to further expose the conspiracy.    Both men also remained steadfast in their
