The deal on troop withdrawals could pave the way for a full withdrawal of foreign soldiers from Afghanistan and represent a step toward ending the 18-year war.

He's trying to leave Afghanistan in the hands of the narco-puppet government that the US has spent 19 years building.

Its shocking that he could succeed - return enough of the profits to the collaborators to keep the Afghan army guarding the poppy fields, selling the product for a knock-down price to the CIA and keep the rest of the population destitute.

If the deal holds it is a strategic triumph for Trump, trying to decry his efforts merely indicate a given mindset

As I previously indicated it is almost certain the Iranians have also buckled and are trying to reach an accommodation with Trump

If the deal holds then there is a chance of peace and a chance to rebuild the country , it obviously depends on the good will of all the parties but it is an indication that Trump is using American power for good .

The Iranians are very smart and I can imagine some serious horse trading going on BUT the Iranians will shelve their Nuclear Program because ultimately they have little choice , they are beset with external and internal issues which threatened the regime mostly economic and when people are hungry they quickly get dissatisfied

Sort like praising a piromaniac for putting out a fire he started.

No fire = 0, fire = -1, putting out fire = +1 so +1+-1 = 0.

If a man is a wife beater, he gets no points for stopping beating his wife.

There is no evident good will in Trump´s action, it is not disigned to help the world or Afgan people he is doing it for PR reasons before an election because Americans don´t like their kids comming home in body bags. and he knows that he will get points with the voters if he can advertise a phony solution to a problem that his party created inthe first place.

As for Iran, the nuclear program is both an economic benefit and a pride thing. U.S. punishing them for doing exactly what the U.S. is doing, is not a selling oint, and could easily back fire. Ask what America i doing by threatening it for engaging in a program on the phony scare tactic that Iran wants the program to terrorize it neighbors.

If the deal with the Taliban holds and gains traction then Trump and his Team succeeded , if the Iranians are forced into renegotiating their nuclear program then Trump and his team have succeeded.

I am not an American and have no say in their politics but success is infectious when Elections are round the corner
