Glock Carbine Patents    Small Arms <20mm

Glock has recently come out with a patent for a Carbine:

Article goes into more detail / photos. But it seems to be some type of AR15/SCAR hybrid, at least with whats shown in the article. 

Glock is know for designing for reliability and low cost of production (the cost to produce a G17 is reportedly $60-80). So I wonder if this rifle - if it ever makes it to production - will be designed around a similar 'cheap n reliable' desig ethos. 

Unlike the SCAR / HK 433 / CZ Bren / B&T APC556 (current '3rd gen' assault rifles) this patent does not look like it uses a solid extruded upper receiver.
