Youtuber oxide has made a vid testing the Mp7 and P90 against the old CRISAT target, and then some stronger 6.5mm armour.

Afterwards he tries M855a1 as well.

I hope the link works, im on my phone

The rifle appears to be a M16A1.  Perhaps the M855A1 was not stabilized, and did not strike the 6b5 plate point first?

Does 6B5 equals to a SAPI plate?

I doubt the bullet would tumble within just 10 metres.

As for the MP7 it would probably defeat the 6.5mm armour if it had a decent length barrel.

Some varminters use the 4.6x30 for fun, and their 20inch barrels can get about 700 ft lbs energy..

Compared to 300 for the MP7

HK should have gone with a bullpup..

I have no idea, Poli.  This was the very first time I saw anything about the 6b5 body armor.

It's also the first confirmation I saw that the CRISAT target replicated actual Russki armor.

HK apparently was of the school of thought that a PDW should be compact enough for holster carry.

If the MP7 had been made a bullpup with longer barrel, it would've been as big as a P90, too large for holster wear.

6B5 is a family of body armor, which dates back to 1985. Different versions had different hard plates (steel, titanium or bor carbide ceramic), plus 30 layers of aramide cloth (Kevlar alike)

heaviest versions (6B5-15) with ceramic plates protected against the standard PS ball in 5.45x39 (7N6) at ranges as low as 10 metersm and against the 7.52x54R LSP (light steel core ball) at 100 meters.

Thanks, Maxim

But new ceramic plates are going to be as good as ESAPI plates, right? Capable of stop NIJ Lvl 4 bullets should be a requisite for new ratnik iterations, and indeed new plates would consider M1186 stopping sooner or later for sure
