A pretty good pick I would say. Could have been much worse.

I was just confused at replacing tracks with wheels. But it _is_ an interim solution after all. And that got me thinking about mounting the Archer system on a track - Bronco? Kettenboxer?

As next gen shells extend the range into 60-70km , wheeled platforms are even more game than before, if you look at HIMARS use in Ukraine it is literally fired from highways.

With 70km this is quite doable

km rounds are vey expensive. Basr bleed rounds are abou km range Thinking about it,

all extended range rounds including 70km rounds trade payload for range , but doesn't mater that much if they have guidance kits.

You can imagine if you are OK with what is essentially a 105mm shell , lots of weight and space can be used up to make the range.

The new ram jet powered shells probably have less HE than old 105mm

I wonder how much they cost, especially when comapred to GMLRS

Probably much cheaper ,as GMLRS are in 168K$ or so per round according to FY2022 documents,  only reason why MRLS has and will not replace artilery is cost to place X amount ordanance on target.

Imagine how complex the modern howitzer like PZH2000 is compared to Himars that is basically a glorified garbage truck with a firecontrol unit , but thanks to all the high tech in the  PZH2000 can drop 60+ 155mm shells at 30-35km distance for maybe 5000$ a pop with good enough accuracy ,so basicaly whole magazine of shells for cost of not even two GMLRS missiles , One himars reload on the other hand is 1mio $ .

But also note the 70km range 155 like Denel V-lap are fired from guns with larger chambers in any case (Denel) Rheinmetall South Africa can't export as south africans are not issuing licenses to Europe bund exports (supposedly some 400mio$ worth of arms exports are on hold due to permitting issues, but like everywhere else i imagine things will get reexported long way around via Qatar,UAE ,Azerbajan or some other intermediary , if we have seen anything in past decade arms permits are worth about as much as the paper it's printed on.) https://trud.bg/350-diplomatic-flights-carry-weapons-for-terrorists/

wow. And I wonder whether Rheinmetall can licence itself to produce such guns somewhere else? But that presumably also needs export clearance?

I think the Rheinmetall Denel is about shells not guns. And like said money makes things move, if it doesn't go directly it makes detours on paper, money changes hands intermediaries are making a killing.Arms export papers are BS and no one cares about any when political will is there, was so already when direct funding and arming of terrorists in Libya and Syria was on the table Azarbajan made a killing providing diplomatic airlines solely in business of trafficking illicit arms and is absolutely the case with Ukraine.

Denel know how in long range artillery is quite impressive. But note same shell in noraml PZH2000 chamber is limited to 56km , larger chamber would enable 75+km

Well, Bull worked with them. And I notice that the larger chamber does not seem to be STANAG compatible? Elbonia might want to buy G6 ...
