I am thinking that we quite possibly want to include anti drone functionality in all RWS, and, at the same time, revisit where we put RWS. The EOS TITANIS system looks like an option https://www.eos-aus.com/defence

No this isn't new at all. Its actually very old. This technique to train shooting at aircraft has been used pre WW2.

Its standard AA gunnery training with the GPMG. Used to be part of every basic training with the AA tripod. During branch specific training its repeated with branch specific mounts.

The size, distance, speed and angle of the model plane are in scale and represent an aircraft passing at 500 m and in slow mode with 150 m/s and in fast mode 300 m/s. If I recall correct. This corresponds with the aiming marks on the standard AA sight.

For the sake of accuracy, the MG3 AA sight is designed for 250 m/s (jets) and 100 m/s (propeller).

APKWS being further refined as a sorta low cost anti drone munition. Key seems to be detecting the drone in time, and having a laser designator that can lock onto the drone and track it.

Also of note in the twitter link is the mention of a newly developed proximity fuse for APKWS.

Overall I think that drone detection is the biggie. Either add that to the vehcile or add an x-band radar to the platoon or company.

Yes thats another big upgrade for the APKWS. It's becoming a pretty versatile bit of kit. What I like about the APKWS and 30x113mm Prox is that its multi roll, capable of both ground to ground anti infantry work as well as anti drone work.

We're seeing ground to ground use in Ukraine now, but the APKWS was afaik initially sent as part of 'anti drone' aid. Wonder if they had the Prox fuses or not?

Some supplementary info from a Apache driver on another forum in regards to APKWS that throws a bit of shade on the anti drone claims:
