i had an idea for a gun that can play the role of sniper rifle, light support weapon, and anti material rifle

it's a portable gun, same weight as M249. belt fed, but only single shot or 2 round burst

the ammo is a souped-up 338 lapua. Necked up to a ultra long 9mm bullet with tungsten core. 320 grains.  ME is 5700ft lbs.

the idea is to allow the user to make very fast single shots, to punch through cover with the powerfull ammo. it doesn't need full auto.

to increase controlability, the barrel recoils backwards and it has a massive suppressor.

any thoughts?

It really looks like the SIG MMG 338 shooting a necked-up .358" version of the .338" Snipe-Tac (or .338-408 IMP).

The .358 Snipe Tac is a pretty obscure wildcat but Cutting Edge is making 340 gr MTH bullets for it, so at least there is one guy in the US shooting it.

Report from pleople who have shot the SIG MMG is that the weapon is not really controllable when fired from the bipod, and you loose the sight of the target very fast. It's better when used from a vehicle.

Is that supposed to me an individual weapon or a crew served weapon?

.375 Swiss P is specifically designed to fit into OAL of .338 LM and provide a larger bullet with better penetration design options. But aside from level 4 body armor you cant really penetrate anything but unarmored vehicles at extended ranges

OK, weird, cos the GD LWMMG appears to be? IS the SIG not short recoil?

GD LWMMG

I recall the GD offering is about 2-4lbs heavier, which might make the difference?

Don't make your job harder; just get a Barrett M82 .50.

the LWMMG 338 is only 11kg.  if you had a medium power cartidge with about 7-8000 FT LBS, could that fit in a 11kg weapon?

would it be worth ressurecting a 9-10mm car/tridge like the prototype 9MM MEN or 10mm Norma......would these be 'relevant' as a sniper or machine gun round..

for example you could have a lightweight 15kg machine gun

If you're going to be that heavy, might as well add some more weight and go 12.7.
