Americans' obsession with guns are killing us. Other countries don't have this problem, why do we insist on clinging to 19th century justice and neanderthal attitudes?
Read the backstory, it is illustrative. Dick's has not sold assault weapons for a number of years in its mainline stores and only in some of its Rod and Tackle stores, not a huge revelation of what it is already doing. Other major retailers have or are doing the same thing, Dick's may be the first of the Sporting Goods specialists to do so, I'll grant that. Walmart used to be one of the largest retailers of semi automatic and assault type weapons but has backed out of the high capacity and assault market over the years and no longer sells them, you can still get ammunition and a wide assortment of other guns, often with no waiting periods (depending on state).

I'm familiar with it. They temporarily suspended sales after Sandy Hook, but continued to sell them in their 35 Field & Stream stores. This ban is permanent, and removes the weapons from F & S as well.
Even small steps like raising purchase age to 21 helps - though that's still not high enough as far as I'm concerned.
And I believe they're also dropping high capacity magazines as well.
Dick’s is not fucking around:— Shannon Watts (@shannonrwatts) April 15, 2018
“Typically a retailer returns unsold merchandise to the manufacturer. But Dick’s is destroying them. ‘We are in the process of destroying all firearms and accessories no longer for sale as a result of our policy change.’” https://t.co/DX9UhxiGiI
