Explain the musical jockeys to me Dogs.  Irad rode Ram on derby day and Risk Taking in the Wood but he’s riding Midnight Bourbon in the Preakness while Mike Smith, who rode MB in the derby is now on Concert Tour, who was ridden by Jo-El in Arkansas but now he’s riding the Ky/Japanese horse with the French name.  At least he did ride him in Dubai.  Who got off willingly and who got replaced?

Great Question: Irad was there on Derby day to ride mounts - plural for perhaps the richest card; save The Breeders Cup.

In a word his agent lined up the mount for D Wayne and providing a big time/race rider.

Wayne is not like Chad Brown or Pletcher who have 1st call riders at a meet. Out of town.

Concert Tour was not a runner in the Derby. Baffert puts him/Mike Smith up now on the colt. Even perhaps an owner connection request vs using a rider from another circuit colony. Gary and Mary West owners of Ahh..Maximum Security.

And remember, Johnny Vee went to California to ride for Baff and connections in the Santa Anita Derby. Then rode the famous now Baff colt Me-dine-ah in Derby. So that's all locked up. Wasn't Smith cause his mount didn't go to prom.

Midnight Bourbon has better chances for Irad and agent for take home pay than Ram. And trainer is for sure likely to ship into the big races and use Irad vs limited opportunities with D Wayne. And the trainer Az-muss-N often takes his 1st call rider at meets: Santana off mounts in the big races.*

Ergo Santana is on Wayne's Ram. Haven't looked but venture Santana and Steve A will have combos in the Friday/Saturday weekend.

*Smith moved off Derby mount MB and takes a colt with a better shot in theory and does a lot of business and sustains his riding $ career with and goes with Baff in California. Irad Jr. picks up MB. Sorta like the name of a famous horse:Swaps. Irad's bro picks up Risk Taking. Chad Brown trainer. Chad uses Castellano more than the bros Ortiz.

And an agent secures a potential money horse in Preak knowing that in 3 weeks there's another biggie at Belmont where the NYRA/NY jock has a home field advantage on the mile and a half Big Sandy.

And the math. Owner gets 60% of purse. Jockey and trainer get 10% of that. Agent gets 25% of jockey share. Agents jockey for position as the cliche goes for them also.

Ron Anderson is the Agent for JV and Joel and has a history of being the Number one Agent for years

Like for Jerry Bailey, Gary Stevens and Others . Cordero isn't Jv's agent anymore and Anderson is .

In some Situations and deals made He has the influence, you will see Jv   crisscrossing the country more

often than before . Anderson and his advisors try to determine who they think is the best horse in the situation

and in many cases start with that trainer and they are savvy at what they do. I always try to know who his clients are.
its a good strategy to know. Down the road don't be surprised if he's the agent for the Ortiz brothers .
