Jockey who rode Makybe Diva to 3 consequetive Melbourne Cup wins,  is retiring at 52.

His inspiration to become a jockey was watching Gred Childs on the great mare, SUNLINE.   Seems like he had a real good aspiration!

Wish I had been around to see Sunline though:

(Sunline:  Dual winner: MVRC W.S Cox Plate (G1), AJC Doncaster Handicap(G1), STC Coolmore Classic (G1), Waikato Sprint(G1), All-Aged Stakes (G1), Apollo Stakes(G2), CtsRC Auckland Thoroughbred Breeders Stakes(G2), Memsie Stakes(G2)

Other Wins include: AJC Flight Stakes (G1), STC Coolmore Classic (G1), Manikato Stakes (G1), Hong Kong Mile (G1), Mudgway Stakes (G2), VRC Turnbull Stakes(G2), Tea Rose Stakes(G2), Warwick Stakes(G2), J.F.Feehan Stakes(G2), Furious Stakes(G3), Moonee Valley Oaks(G3)

The first active runner to be inducted into the Australian Racing Hall of Fame.
Australian Horse of the Year: 99/00, 00/01, 01/02 & Champion New Zealand Horse of the Year: 98/99, 99/00, 00/01, 01/02.
