The president of the National HBPA, a group that on several local levels had been actively obstructing the smooth implementation of HISA uniform rules and regulations, as well as the new anti-doping and drug protocols, has signed onto the HISA advisory board.

This, IMO, is a welcome and necessary development.  Good news.

And now this:

https://www.thoroughbreddailynews.com/baffert-cdi-appears-to-misunderstand-its-own-derby-qualifying-rules/

Really? His CDI suspension is over after the 2023 Kentucky Derby (so, from May 7 onwards he can race at their tracks again).   It wasn't a lifetime ban nor 10 years like Dutrow.  He should just lay low, STFU, and wait out the next 3 months.  Why all this crap now to try to sneak in this year's Derby as if his life depended on it?

If he wants to make CDI look bad, he should try to sweep the superfecta in the 150th Derby (next year)... but I'm sure Asmussen, Cox, Pletcher, Brown et al will have something to say about that!

Fully agree.  CDI will not fold, if the article is any indication, based on CDIs comments and Baffert is like a dog with a bone.  Beta Bob is a pro at doing grievance and playing the victim.  He simply cannot STFU.

I think he has too many good colts he wants to continue training up to the Derby this year.  Several may still qualify, but with a different trainer, needing to get the points in their final prep.  Arabian Knight, Mr. Fisk, Cave Rock, Faustin, Havnameltdown, Newgate, Reincarnate, Harlocap, Hejazi, and Worcester......possibly others.....all have a chance to make noise on the TC trail.  It's an absolute embarrassment of riches; of course he's going to fight as much as possible to try to bring those colts forward.

It's still a mystery to me why all those rich owners continue to choose him.

Oh, he can train 'em.  They just can't go to the Derby if he does.  LOL

On a serious note, I've never said Beta wasn't a very talented trainer which is what makes his disreputable traits all the more aggravating.

Prince- respect you. Baffort plays an edge game that works for him. Keeps him in the spot light, talent is not an attribute.

IF HISA works right, and U.S. Racing becomes less dysfunctional, we would be seeing other names named here, other than the above "super trainers" which has made racing very boring for many of us.

Not to mention all the hard work going on in other barns, and all those people laboring (honestly) to ........................not win.

Cox has 3 horses in the Southwest.  It's ridiculous, its only a 9 horse field, and that's before scratches, if any.

“In the aftermath of the recent Congressional amendment, and without opining on the newly amended HISA law, the Fifth Circuit has sent the case back to the district court. Outside Louisiana and West Virginia, the Authority will continue enforcing the Racetrack Safety Program and preparing for the implementation of its Anti-Doping and Medication Control Program on March 27, subject to the Federal Trade Commission's approval of the rules.”

HISA continues to litigate, now returned to the district court.  It sounds like WV and LA are going to operate as rogue jurisdictions.   It's all about casino money period for those two states.  AFAIC, racing should be shut down there because we know horses and riders are secondary considerations when they should be PRIMARY.  Texas has never been in the loop.

US racing  continues to be its own worst enemy.   The tone deafness of this sport vis a vis the culture at large is the picture of ignorance, IMO.
