That's exactly right.
I have always had suspicions about Baffert for a number of years. Someone with eczema or poison ivy would have had to slather a lot of that kind of cream on their hands, then be doing a tongue tie or something.
But given the nature of politics these days and how unhappy many people are with the "saudi connection" you never know what some xenophobic "patriot" extremist is going to do. It's the one time I'm giving Bob the benefit of a doubt here.....I can't believe I'm doing that myself, but there it is.
The manner in which i have heard many horseplayers denigrate foreign entries isn't my imagination (often to the point where they are considered "invaders" of sorts)...... so I expect it could be done with owners as well. The owner seems like a very nice and humble man. And our breeders sure don't mind taking their $$$. so there's that......
I certainly don't believe in mixing international politics with horse racing, and have never engaged in such behavior. These are horses, not heads of state.
Months leading up to around the time Paynter was really sick, there was a number of Muslim Owners
horse's getting sick, or sluggish in there appearance and it came up maybe it was an conspiracy, After Paynter
finished his fight ,no more was ever said about it. Or at least I didn't hear anymore about it. Sabotage who knows.
I wouldn't put anything past a lunatic, especially a hateful lunatic. The single reason I don't by the overage as the result of a xenophobic operative is that the bad test was 21 picograms. Someone as hateful as you suggest would more likely simply poison the horse a la Phar Lap & kill him.
Why go to the trouble to titrate a dose or multiple doses of a common anti-inflammatory unless you attribute a lot more intelligence to hate-driven saboteur than I do.
I suppose it's possible but it seems highly unlikely to me. Occam's Razor = Baffert is responsible.

The point would not be trying to kill the horse. More likely they would be trying to *discredit* the reputations of Baffert and his horse's saudi owner.
Killing the horse would do nothing at all to *ruin reputations*, cast aspersions, take away someone's credibility, etc. and ruin careers. I was just offering up another scenario while hanging off the side of the bandwagon. :)
Other possibility is that Baffert's "feed guys" aren't getting it right, and Baffert wouldn't know that, maybe the stuffs that is supposed to be "undetectable" actually isn't as they may have assured him.
There's a lot of scenarios possible here. Unfortunately, none of them are good.
Let's see what the 2nd lab tests shows....it's interesting that Baffert went to the press ahead of the time when they usually report. Also wonder if the colt had the anti-inflammatory 2 weeks prior, which BB denies, if it could possibly show up in the blood.
I play a lot of poker, Steve, and I read Baffert as being surprised.....both by MS's victory AND the positive drug test.
1 picogram is 1 trillionth of a gram. So, Medina was 11 trillionths of 1 gram over. An almost infinitesimally small amount.
A slightly altered metabolism or a slower than "normal" metabolism would put Medina over if the medication was in use. Baffert says he never used it on the horse, BTW.
I agree & I have all along we need to see what happens with the split sample.

You may be right, as I acknowledged. The lunatic(s) may have a very savvy chemist on the payroll. :)
As I was saying to prince, 11 trillionths of a gram over is an almost infinitesimally small amount & would only take the slightest error on a human's part or a slightly out of whack biology in Medina to trigger the overage.
As far as conspiracies go, I think it's more likely that CDI, The KHRC & Baffert would collude to bury a positive split sample.
We should find out soon enough.
