Of course Repole said that the vets were being overly cautious.I get the impression that he would have run him if the vets hadn’t stepped in.It was the same secrecy around Uncle Mo.

"Overly cautious"  So now Repole is a vet, right?  He is a dumbass.

No doubt in my mind they would have run.  That's why Todd was talking through both sides of his mouth.

I don't know, Steve.....Repole sounds sincere, at least to me.  Maybe I'm easily sold, but I do play a lot of poker, and I can see bluffs, he ain't bluffing.  And it is something to consider.  Should a horse with a tender hoof still be allowed to race, if his gallops look OK?  I know with athletes in football, they play through some bruises......so, if the bruise made Forte only 95% excellent, should he be allowed to race?  Just an honest question, a ponder if you will.

When a horse has a fever, or is out of sorts, or a limp, obviously....scratch.  But is it possible to have a few nicks/scratches and still be competitive?

Repole is an enthusiast not an expert medical man.  This week, after the battering that CDI has taken over horse welfare.  No.

Overly cautious is the correct mindset.  Only my opinion, of course.

Any athlete can be competitive with nicks but these are horses, not people who can choose to compete and run their own risks.  Horses cannot decide.

Absolutely astonishing!  Yes, you did note that, and were pretty good about the others being scratched too!

Just use my eyes to watch workouts.

I'm trying to up my game w/regard to physicality handicapping, i.e. going to Oaklawn with no data and no PPs and trying to pick horses just watching them in paddock, post parade, etc.    I guess it's paying off a tiny bit.   It's something I want to work on as one of my capping "goals".

Why would Pletcher have skirted the issue

Gee, you must not have watched the many "Pletcher moves" over the years.

Life at Ten?  Uncle Mo?

And no, he didn't "know full well yesterday the handwriting was on the wall".......the VETS scratched Forte.  Pletcher WAS going to run him.

The decision was out of his hands.

Asmussen has run 2nd in first 4 races.  I have his horse on my ticket (homebred, ya know, I can't resist), but I haven't gotten my whole ticket done yet.

I have some "gimmick bets" going as well.  They ARE gimmick wagers though, but playing them cheap.

Will post up some thoughts later as I am watching how the track is playing, etc.

wow, could have had five AE's and all would have drawn in.  At least this year no AE got screwed by a horse scratching later than 9AM Friday.

If he were my horse I would have scratched him when there was talk of modifying the shoe. The horse has to be 100% to run in a race like this IMHO.A slight strain in one place can lead to over compensating which can lead to more problems
