Oh no kidding! Like those moments when you stare at a word, and the longer you stare at it, the more wrong it looks!
But, I actually did try it. haha. It seemed "easier" than the other option of research & listing 3 items related to what I searched for in some database I've never heard of before. It's also brushing up on the two years of French I took in high school and remember very little of. I also took one year of Spanish in 8th grade and remember very little of that as well. I think schools should teach them earlier than high school, I'd think most would retain more. But what do I know!
I tried reading a book I found via new releases. I stopped about 7% in. I looked up reviews and it doesn't look like it gets better. So I'm going to return it and start on Cross Bones. There haven't been a lot of new releases that sound interesting to me. Plus my library has been slow at adding new fiction lately.

I had two years of German in high school and remember very little. I think I can still count to ten, say "good morning, thank you" and simple things like that and that's about it.
I can do the same in Spanish because we had Spanish in elementary school starting in 3rd grade. Of course, it wasn't every day and was only on TV for about 20-30 minutes on the days we had it.
Remember in the previous post I mentioned having trouble remembering English words sometimes. Well, that happened the other night when I was talking with my sister. She was talking about her toaster not working and thought she needed a new one but then figured out the electrical outlets in her kitchen weren't getting electricity. She was having a problem remembering "the thing out in the garage" which is the breaker box. I came up with that one for her. But then I was telling her about my TV and cable box not having any electricity a few weeks ago. I was trying to tell her they're both plugged into a surge protector but couldn't think of that. I said, "You know, it's like an extension cord but you can plug lots of things into it." She couldn't figure it out either and told me to take a picture and send it to her. I finally said, "It's that thing that's supposed to protect the TV in case of a power surge. OH!!! That's it - a surge protector!" I sat here and laughed so hard I thought I was going to pee in my pants.
Oh! That book by John Irving that I told you I got through Libby about a week ago - the title I posted wasn't right. the correct title is The Last Chairlift. Earlier I left out the word "Last". It's a long one - 890 pages in Kindle version. I've been reading for a week and I'm almost up to page 400. I need to pick up the pace if I'm going to finish it on time.

I've had similar moments but I'm usually the one guessing the missing word! I'm also good for looking up words because I overthink it and believe I have chosen the wrong word. Ha.
I can't recall the last book over 500 pages I've read. Apparently that book I gave up on was pretty long.
I just spent the last little bit adding the latest reads to goodreads before I forget. Apparently I'm already up to 72. Doesn't feel like it!!
On hoopla I watched the first couple of episodes of A Discovery of Witches. It's pretty interesting. I remember checking the book out but never got to it. Back then it was only the one but I guess it became a trilogy. I'm debating whether to continue because I think hoopla only has one season. I believe there's 3 total. I'm patient. I put up with roku only having a couple of seasons of shows for awhile until they *finally* have the rest. haha

Most of the novels I read are somewhere between 350-450 pages. However, some of the authors I like tend to write longer books. Obviously, John Irving. A lot of Dan Brown's (Robert Langdon series) books are upward to 600 pages or more. Patricia Cornwell (Scarpetta series) has several that are over 500 pages. Greg Iles (Natchez Burning trilogy) those ranged beteen 700-1400 pages. J.A. Jance (Joanna Brady series) has a few over 500 pages. Steig Larsson (Millienium trilogy) the second one was over 600 pages and the third one was over 700 pages. Pat Conroy's book usually run 600-700 pages. Karin Slaughter (Will Trent series and Grant County series) has several that are over 500 pages.
I also read a few biographies that are close to or over 1000 pages. Edmund Morris has a triology on the life of Theodore Roosevelt. The first one was over 1000 pages and the other two were each over 700 pages. Walter Cronkite's biography by his grandson is over 1000 pages. Bill Clinton's autobiography was over 1000 pages. Of course, sometimes with the non-fiction books that last 100 page or so may be sources, bibliography, etc.
I just need to keep in mind that they are going to take longer to read which means I'll read less books.
I used to watch a lot ... and I mean a LOT ... of TV shows. Most of these were network series and a few were cable series. But nothing where I had to pay for it. I would always record the shows and watch them while playing Midnight Castle and other online games on Pogo.com. Of course, when the pandemic hit we didn't have many of those shows and I wasn't able to watch them. When they started back up I discovered that I really don't want to watch TV. Heck ... I even stopped recording "NCIS" and I'd been watching that show for 18 years. The only thing I watch now is the local news and NBC Nightly News each day. And I record those and sometimes it may be 3 or 4 days before I get around to watching them. I have several friends who keep the TV on constantly just for background noise. Not me! I found that I just don't want the noise ... even while I'm playing games. I might turn it on but it doesn't take long before I'm turning it off. Sometimes my sister will call me during a special news program or the local news and tell me to turn the TV on.. LOL
Well, enough of that. I need to get back to MC and finish the Daily Quest I'm working on. And then back to reading.

Libby is driving me CRAZY!!!
Two weeks ago I got the John Irving book The Last Chairlift which is almost 900 pages. I started it about two days later and I'm still trying to finish it. I have about 180 pages left. Yes, it had to go back this afternoon but I've learned it will stay on my Kindle as long as I leave the book open. Not a problem.
Then 2 days ago, another book became available, and it wasn't supposed to be available for 4 more weeks. Since I'm still reading the loonnnng John Irving book, I changed that one to be available on Sept. 1.
I just now got an email saying yet another book is available. I just checked all of my holds earlier and it wasn't supposed to be available for 2 more weeks. So I changed that one to be available on Sept. 6.
While I was in there just now I noticed another book that was at 6 weeks this morning is now at 4 weeks. I'll bet that one is going to be available in just a matter of days also. Right now I have books waiting at 4, 10 14, 22, 23 and 26 weeks. The rest are "several months". If they come that way, everything will be good. But I'm just betting some of these are going to take big jumps.
It wouldn't bother me except I've got a lot of purchased books on my Kindle I need to work on. Usually when I put a book on hold in Libby, it's way out there. You know, so far that it says "Several months" instead of number of weeks. I've noticed it doesn't start showing "weeks" until it's no more than 26 weeks. But then they start taking these huge leaps especially when it gets around 10-12 weeks and it's available way ahead of what I was expecting.
Oh well ... I guess that's better than not having anything to read.

Too many books and not enough time!
I can have quite a few checked out and have some that I've bought and yet I'll still search for more.
I'm still working on Cross Bones. It's like I want to read it but not really. It's been a chapter or two a day.
I'm still debating if I want to try the book my friend recommended but it's non-fiction. Which with your luck on libby, I should request it via there! Wait time is 12 weeks now.
Also, the way your libby holds arrive, that's been my experience with normal holds with my library. I actually had a hold become available yesterday but pushed it back because I have 3 I haven't touched yet.

That's me! I keep telling myself I have more than enough books and don't need anymore. I'm not really searching for new books, but I get the emails from Bookbub and GoodReads. I see something that sounds interesting and want it. If it's not marked down then it goes on my Bookbub wishlist. Or since I started using Libby, I go there to see if I can find it.
Some women buy shoes and have hundreds of pairs. Me? I buy books to read!

Libby did it again! I know I'm starting to sound like a broken record.
I just checked my email and discovered I have another book available. This one had been sitting at 12 weeks with me 7th in line for about month without changing. Now it's suddenly available. Well, the next person in line can have it.
Right now I'm trying to finish the book I was reading before the John Irving book became available a few weeks ago. The Boys of Winter: The Untold Story of a Coach, a Dream, and the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team is a nonfiction and so a little slower than what I usually read. I've only got about 50 pages left and hope to finish it later today. But I already have another book waiting for me through Libby. That one became available right after the John Irving book and I let it go with a date of Sept. 1 to be delivered. I got that one yesterday. And I also have another Libby book that is supposed to be delivered Sept. 6. I guess this latest book that became available can be delivered on Sept. 10.
This is crazy!

Oohh.. hockey. Now you have my attention!
Surprisingly, I haven't read much hockey non-fiction.
I took a page out of your book and passed on a hold. I'm still working on the same book. Ha. I think I have a few others that are gonna expire soon. Oops! Guess I need to spend some quality time with the current read so I can get to the others.

I'm born and raised in Kentucky where basketball is king. I'm also a huge baseball fan. I recall as a kid sitting in the family room on Saturdays watching the St. Louis Cardinals on TV listening to PeeWee Reese and Dizzy Dean. No ice hockey here. But I still enjoy reading books about exceptional sports events no matter what the sport.
My friend Tammy27 here in the forum is from Minnesota - ice hockey country if ever there was one. I sent her a PM the other day about the book. Here's part of what I said.
It's broken into 3 sections - one for each period in the game. You're going to laugh at me - I had no idea hockey had 3 periods. Really?? Three??? Not two or four??? Obviously, I've never watched any hockey on TV. Anytime I have seen bits of hockey on TV - this was probably when I was married and my husband was channel surfing and happened to stop on a hockey game for a few minutes - it just looked like a free-for-all. But reading this book has been very interesting to learn there really is a method to all that madness on the ice. LOL
Seriously, I had no idea there were 3 periods in an ice hockey game. Blue line?? Red line?? I was able to figure those out easily.
