The Underground Railroad is a historical fiction novel by American author Colson Whitehead published by Doubleday in 2016. The alternate history novel tells the story of Cora and Caesar, two slaves in the southeastern United States during the 19th century, who make a bid for freedom from their Georgia plantation by following the Underground Railroad, which the novel depicts as primarily a rail transport system in addition to a series of safe houses and secret routes.

Comment: I had a real problem with this book. The "underground railroad" during the American slavery period was not a real railroad with tracks and a train. It was a term used for a network of secret routes and safe houses established in the United States during that time period. I had a very hard time reading this book because the author made it into a railroad with tracks and a train. Yes, I know it was fictional but I struggled to finish this book. And to be honest it turned me off from reading anything more by this author. I was surprised it received many awards.

Voss by Patrick White

I found Voss by Patrick White to be a difficult read. While I was expecting a descriptive book about an expedition to cross the Australian continent east to west, I found myself reading a book whose focus was very much on two characters, that of German explorer, Voss, and Laura, the niece of his benefactor. We travel with Voss who seems to be on a journey of self-discovery, and explore the complex relationship between the two main characters

Youngblood (is a superhero team that starred in their self-titled comic book, created by writer/artist Rob Liefeld. The team made its debut as a backup feature in the 1987 RAMM #1 before the next month appearing in the one-shot Megaton Explosion #1 before later appearing in 1992 in its own ongoing series as the flagship publication for Image Comics. Youngblood was originally published by Image Comics, and later by Awesome Entertainment. Upon Rob Liefeld's return to Image Comics, it was revived in 2008, 2012, and 2017. In 2019, Liefeld revealed that he has not owned the rights to Youngblood for several years)

Zaccheus – John Newton

Zaccheus climbed the tree,
And thought himself unknown;
But how surprised was he
When Jesus called him down!
The Lord beheld him, though concealed,
And by a word his pow'r revealed.

That reminds me of the Bible song I learned in Sunday school many, many years ago.

Angels & Demons by Dan Brown - This was the first book (2000) in the mystery-thriller series about world-renowned Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon. However, it didn't become popular until The Da Vinci Code (published in 2003) was a hit. That's when I went back and read Angels & Demons.
