Cats are afraid of cucumbers

There are a few theories, but no definitive answer. Most experts agree that it isn’t necessarily the cucumber itself that scares cats. One of the most popular explanations is that cucumbers remind cats of snakes. “Cats are genetically hard-wired through instinct to avoid snakes,”

Easter Island Heads have bodies.

The iconic stone heads protruding from the ground on Easter Island are familiar to most, but many don't realize what lies beneath the surface. In the '10s, archaeologists studying the hundreds of stone statues on the Pacific Island excavated two of the figures, revealing full torsos, which measure as high as 33 feet.

Flamingos are only pink because of the food they eat (young flamingos flaunt grey/white color feathers and only develop their pinkish hue after delving into a diet of brine shrimp and blue-green algae – food that would likely kill other animals. “Flamingos tend to live in inhospitable, relatively remote wetlands – lakes so alkaline in pH it could burn human flesh off the bones)

Glitter was first made on a ranch

A cattle rancher in New Jersey is credited for inventing glitter, and it was by accident. Henry Ruschmann from Bernardsville, New Jersey was a machinist who crushed plastic while trying to find a way to dispose of it and thus made glitter in 1934

Hermitage Museum is "guarded" by cats (The Hermitage cats are a group of cats residing in the Hermitage Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The museum has a press secretary dedicated to the cats, and three people act as caretakers. The cats live in the museum's basement, and they also appear on the embankment and on the square during the summer. In previous eras they roamed throughout the museum galleries. The cats were present in the museum, originally a palace, since the 18th century; in 1745, Elizabeth of Russia ordered cats to be placed in the palace in order to control the mice)

Funny story................On Monday (5-17) I was at work and a few residents were sitting at a table with one of our activity aides. They were learning about and tasting some foods from Russia. Later when I walked by, the activity aide was doing trivia about Russia and one of the things she brought up was the Hermitage cats. After the group was done I went and told the aide about our Alphabet Game and our recent topic and thanked her for the "tip".

Issac Newton's Apple Tree

Growing in a courtyard garden in the Physics Department here in the University of York UK we have a grafted cutting from an ancient apple tree which still survives in Newton's garden at Woolsthorpe Manor, his birthplace in Lincolnshire. This is the tree from which it is reputed that Newton saw an apple fall in the late summer of 1666 and which caused him to speculate upon the nature of gravitation. Our tree was given to us by Kew Gardens in 1976.

Issac Newton first thought up the idea of gravity when he saw an apple fall from a tree. This new concept gave Newton the ide… | Isaac newton, Facts for kids, Isaac
