Iniki (was the most powerful hurricane to strike the U.S. state of Hawaii in recorded history. Forming on September 5, 1992, during the strong 1990–1995 El Niño, Iniki was one of eleven Central Pacific tropical cyclones during that season. It attained tropical storm status on September 8 and further intensified into a hurricane the next day. After turning north, Iniki struck the island of Kaua?i on September 11 at peak intensity; it had winds of 145 mph and reached Category 4 status on the Saffir–Simpson hurricane scale. It had recorded wind gusts of 225 mph as evidenced by an anemometer that was found blown into the forest during clean up. It was the first hurricane to hit the state since Hurricane Iwa in the 1982 season, and the first major hurricane since Hurricane Dot in 1959. Iniki dissipated on September 13 about halfway between Hawaii and Alaska)

Judge Judy premiered on September 16, 1996. It is an American arbitration-based reality court show presided over by former Manhattan family court Judge Judith Sheindlin. The show features Sheindlin adjudicating real-life small-claim disputes within a simulated courtroom set. Prior to the proceedings, all involved parties signed arbitration contracts agreeing to Sheindlin's ruling. The show airs in first-run syndication, and is distributed by CBS Media Ventures. In 2015, Sheindlin and CBS renewed their contract for the final time through the court show's 25th and final season (2020–21). The series will air its finale on July 23, 2021. During its original run, the show did not air its episodes in the order they were taped. Thus the final case Judy taped for the series aired on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. Following the series finale, reruns from all 25 seasons are set to air in first-run syndication, and currently air on Pluto TV's courtroom station. Judge Judy won three Emmy awards, induction into the Broadcasting & Cable Hall of Fame, and a Guinness World Records recognition, among many other honors. Of the court shows with a seamless series run never halted by cancellation/revival gaps, Judge Judy prevails as having the most seasons. It was also the highest Nielsen-rated court show for the entirety of its 25 year initial series run. During the vast majority of its initial series run, Judge Judy garnered the most preeminant television rankings and ratings in all of daytime and syndication, distinguishing the program from all other televised broadcasts.

K-pop (short for Korean popular music, is a genre of music originating in South Korea as part of South Korean culture. It is influenced by styles and genres from around the world, such as pop, experimental, rock, jazz, gospel, hip hop, R&B, reggae, electronic dance, folk, country, and classical on top of its traditional Korean music roots. The more modern form of the genre emerged with the formation of one of the earliest K-pop groups, the boy band Seo Taiji and Boys, in 1992. Their experimentation with different styles and genres of music and integration of foreign musical elements helped reshape and modernize South Korea's contemporary music scene)

Monica Seles stabbed during a match (On April 30. 1993 during a quarterfinal match with Magdalena Maleeva in Hamburg in which Seles was leading, Günter Parche, an obsessed fan of Steffi Graf, ran from the middle of the crowd to the edge of the court during a break between games and stabbed Seles with a boning knife between her shoulder blades, to a depth of 1.5 cm (0.59 inches). She was quickly taken to a hospital. Although her physical injuries took only a few weeks to heal, she did not return to competitive tennis for more than two years. Initially, there was speculation that the attack might have been politically motivated because Seles was from Yugoslavia. She was known to have received death threats in relation to the Yugoslav Wars. However, German authorities were quick to rule this out, describing her attacker as confused and possibly mentally disturbed. According to police, Parche intended to injure Seles so that she would be unable to compete and Graf would become the No. 1 player again. Parche was charged following the incident, but spent less than 6 months in pre-trial detention. In his trial, he was found to be psychologically abnormal, and was sentenced to two years' probation and psychological treatment. The incident prompted a significant increase in the level of security at tour events)

NAFTA was enacted on January 1, 1994. The North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) was an agreement signed by Canada, Mexico, and the United States that created a trilateral trade bloc in North America. The agreement came into force on January 1, 1994, and superseded the 1988 Canada–United States Free Trade Agreement between the United States and Canada. The NAFTA trade bloc formed one of the largest trade blocs in the world by gross domestic product.

I actually went to Miami (with my Union) in the early 2000's to protest an different trade agreement, the Free Trade Areas of the Americas (FTAA). The agreement never came to be. It was quite the experience.....................

Orbitz (was a noncarbonated fruit-flavored beverage product made by The Clearly Food & Beverage Company of Canada, makers of Clearly Canadian. It was introduced in 1997 and quickly disappeared due to poor sales. In July 2013, Clearly Canadian stated that it was considering producing a limited run of new products to satisfy "nostalgia demand", with the possibility of annual issues thereafter based on consumer reception of the initial batch. Made with small floating edible balls, the drink was marketed as a "texturally enhanced alternative beverage" but some consumers compared it to a potable lava lamp. The small balls floated due to their nearly equal density to the surrounding liquid, and remained suspended with assistance from an ingredient known as gellan gum. The gellan gum provided a support matrix—something like a microscopic spider web—and had a visual clarity approaching that of water, which increased with the addition of sugar. The gellan gum created a very weak yield stress which has been measured to be ~0.04 Pa. The product's website was bought by the Internet-based travel agency named Orbitz. Unopened bottles from the drink's original launch have become a collector's item, appearing on online auction websites)

The Penguins won 411 of 786 games during the 1990s, and their win percentage of 58.0% was second only to Detroit's 62.0% (out of 26 teams that played at least four seasons during the 1990). They were an offensive juggernaut: they averaged 3.68 goals for per game, first in the league during the decade.
