Can anyone tell me where our game data is stored? Is it local on our computer? I'm wondering if my computer crashes will I lose progress. If it can be lost, is there a way to save it somewhere so it can be reinstated? Thank you!

If your computer crashes, then your game itself should be ok since it is on the Big Fish servers. However, your friends list would be on your computer and neither Big Fish nor Elephant Games would be able to restore your friends when they restore your game. If you have a backup of your game, you could transfer your game to a new computer with your friends list intact. I recommend all players keep a list of their friends and their game ids, I keep a spreadsheet of my friends, but I also take screenshots every once in a while, to keep it up to date.

You'll find the info here:

How to transfer MC to a new PC (delphiforums.com)

However, should your game be reset back to zero then your only recourse is to contact Big Fish or Elephant Games and provide them with a list of coins, diamonds, all your inventory and other stuff you had in your game so that they can try to rebuild it. Some players report getting better results than others, you just have to be persistent.

There is some better discussion about this here (starting with Msg 2204):

PC Friends (delphiforums.com)

I hope this helps and I'm sure someone more experienced with this sort of thing will come along and give you more advice.

Tammy27 (DoubleMsMom) said the following:   If you have a backup of your game,....

I'd like clarify that statement.

ON PC....Your game ID and friends list are housed in the save.db ....this database is located in your user's AppData\Roaming\Elephant Games\Midnight Castle folder along with 2 other files and a Content folder. If you purchase a new computer, you can download Midnight Castle to that new computer so all the files will get installed on that new computer. You can then copy the save.db from the above location of your Old Computer into the same location on the new computer.

When next you open your game, there will be a huge download as the game is delivered to that new device. All your progress, inventory, achievements, pets, avatars....everything from the game will be there on your new device. Your friends will be on the new device because they are in that save.db along with your user ID that tells the Big Fish server which game to deliver to your device.

There are NO game files on your computer. The GAME files are housed on the Big Fish servers and delivered to you when you click to open the game on your PC. IF you ever get the message "There was a problem with your game save"...that means your game progress didn't reach the Big Fish servers. When you next open the game, your ID will be sent to the BF servers. The server will have no record of your game and think you're a new player starting the game. Hence, it will deliver the game at Level 1 to your computer. When you get to Level 6, your friends will appear because they are also on your computer.

If this happens, nothing you can collect from your computer ....nothing you can save from your computer will bring back that game. Big Fish or Elephant Games can do a "rebuild" of your game if you can tell them all of what you had and hope they'll be generous with giving much of it back. Your event album will be empty, your private room upgrades will all be gone.

Wish the info was more beneficial to players. But, it's their game and that's how they have it programmed.

(I'm sure a great deal of their reasoning is because players had learned how to cheat by modifying files on their computers.)
