I lost all friends, except John,  a few months ago when I bought a new PC. I posted a request for friends then but none came through, although I wasn't playing for a while. I am hoping this time is different. I played as ppw and

my new ID# is 939666.  I had written down my long time friends' names and ID#'s but who  knows where I put that info. I'll be more careful next time. Lesson learned.

Believe it or not, after having no Friends other than John after the Update, The next day all of my Friends list was back.  I guess losing them for a day was a good thing, because after posting abut it, I've had a bunch of Friend Requests and am extremely grateful for all of you.  I'm usually a "Loner" but I've found that having Friends really DOES help when playing this game, LOL!

I have you on my game.  I play as Bingo.  After loosing my game many months ago, my husband now backs up my game after every event.  If it drops me again, I can download the last save and only loose the current event (not the whole D*** thing.)  If you have someone who can do this for you, it will save a lot of frustration.  

I'll check with my husband on how the save is done and get back to you, so you can do the backup for yourself.  You are correct about Big Fish, I have a BIG problem with my passwords.  I think I'm, up to 5 or 6 this year alone.  They don't seem to know how to fix it and just keep issuing new passwords.  The most recent was just  a week ago.  Waited many days for a reply.  I've given up on it ever getting any better.  Play-on my friend.  

 Hi Bingo, okay, thanks. Too bad it isn"t like it used to be. I NEVER had any trouble with my games until the Oct. 2021 fiasco. I have started over from scratch more than once. Hi Mare I'm back to give you the instructions on how to save your game. My husband is sending this for me, but if you need help, ask, and he will reply.

Big Fish saves Midnight Castle in 2 folders which can be saved as backups.

BRIEFLY - There are 2 (two) Midnight Castle folders (both with the same name) that reside in 2 different locations on your PC. These 2 folders need to be copied and saved as backups and later used to entirely replace any newly created Midnight Castle folders following a new installation from Big Fish, if you ever lose all of your game progress up to the point of your last saved backup.

1) Midnight Castle folder located in Program Files (x86)

2) Midnight Castle folder located in AppData > Roaming > Elephant Games

Replacing these 2 folders with your backups following a re-installation of Midnight Castle should recover your last saved backup progress. Bit Fish will (should) automatically update the game itself when it is run.

Open the Windows File Explorer, then find these 2 folders. You may have to double-click on the C: drive to expand the list of its contents.

1) This PC > Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86) > Midnight Castle

There are 20 items in the Midnight Castle folder. 3 folders are - assets, DirectXInstall, & pics. The remaining 17 items are just files, including the MidnightCastle.exe . I suspect this is the Midnight Castle "game" file that makes the game playable.

2) This PC > Windows (C:) > Users > "YOUR computer user name folder - not the Public folder" > AppData > Roaming > Elephant Games > Midnight Castle

There are 4 items in the Midnight Castle folder. 1 folder is - content. The remaining 3 items are files - logfile.txt, save.db, settings.json . This folder is probably where all of your personal settings and game saves reside.

How to use these folders ... 

Creating the BACKUP ... 

Create a new folder on your desktop screen. You can move this folder to a different location later but it is easy to find quickly for your save. I named my new folder Midnight Castle 2023 September.     Open this new folder and create 2 new folders inside of it named Midnight Castle Program and Midnight Castle AppData. Doing it this way will help keep the 2 Midnight Castle folders from different locations separate from each other.

Go to the 1) location above and copy the entire Midnight Castle folder and save it into your new empty Midnight Castle Program folder.

Go to the 2) location above and copy the entire Midnight Castle folder and save it into your new empty Midnight Castle AppData folder.

Your newly created desktop  folder Midnight Castle 2023 September now contains your most recent version of Midnight Castle along with your current saves and progress in 2 separate folders. You can now save this 2023 folder to a different drive or a USB memory stick for safe-keeping. Just remember to use this backup process at important intervals in your game progress.

Restoring your saved game progress ... 

STEP 1 - Reinstall Midnight Castle using the Big Fish installer.

STEP 2 - Open your Midnight Castle 2023 September folder which contains your 2 saved backup folders - Program & AppData. Also, in a separate window, open the 1) This PC > Windows C: > Program Files (x86) folder where the newly installed Midnight Castle folder resides. Open your saved Program folder, copy the Midnight Castle folder (with all of its 20 items), and paste it into the Windows (C:) > Program Files (x86) folder, replacing/overwriting all files with your saved Midnight Castle folder.

STEP 3 - Open the 2)  This PC > Windows (C:) > Users > > > > Elephant Games folder where the newly installed Midnight Castle folder resides. Replace this Midnight Castle folder with Midnight Castle folder that is in your saved AppData folder replacing/overwriting all files.

I'm going to try this, although I think it is moot.  I have many flash drives, so worries there.  I have tried similar methods in the past that just did not work.  But I will try this just to see what happens.  You CAN teach old dogs new tricks!  So, I'm willing to give it a go.  Will post back here when I've tried it.  Thanks for the suggestion.
