A medical expert (alas, I'm sorry that I didn't catch his name....he was introduced when I was distracted)........anyway this expert made a profound statement that no one seems to have picked up on:

If EVERYONE would wear a mask for 3 weeks, the virus would have no place to go.

Would that we could get the whole world to just "wear a damn mask" for the remainder of July so we could put this "experience" behind us and move on to reconstruction.

Hey, at least your leaders actually care about you and listen to science, not idiots.  Best of luck to you all in NZ!

I live in Kentucky and we've done pretty well up until this week. With the number of positive test results going up each day on Thursday the governor announced that effective Friday at 5 PM masks are mandatory for the next 30 days. At that time he will evaluate and decide whether or not to continue the mandate. Of course if you have a medical condition which prohibits you from wearing the mask you will be exempt. I wonder how many perfectly healthy people will suddenly have one of those medical conditions.

An odd thing for me is that NZ never really took to mask wearing. It's really been much of a non-thing here. We were locked down so early and so hard that we hadn't actually got to the mask-wearing stage, and right now with no covid-19 in the community we don't need to. 

Unfortunetly we know that community transmission could occur again, and I've got my masks in my emergency kit, and am ready if it happens. While kiwis overseas are still able to return to NZ, the virus cannot be gone, and particularly when we have cases like happened last week, were an idiot who had been diagnosed with Covid-19 broke out of the quarantine hotel, and went shopping in downtown Auckland! We now have a two week wait to see if anythng comes of that little bit of stupidity. For him, its lead to a day in court, and most likely 6 months in prison. Guess he's soon going to be wishing he'd just stayed the 14 days in the cushy five-star hotel he was quarantined in, at the government's expense, with free wi-fi, comfy rooms and good food.

Though some might enjoy this.

First, if someone is without a mask, stay 6 feet away.  The rule is wear a mask OR stay 6 feet away.  The WHO has made everyone fear everything.  I am also over 65, but they have lied to us for so long, the truth is no where to be found.  First, don't wear a mask, because they are in short supply, they wear a mask or stay 6 feet apart, now wear a mask, even a cloth mask (which is as good as nothing) if you are indoors, but only 10 people are allowed in church at a time.  The rules make no sense, and change on a weekly basis.  They are trying to accomplish a massive change in human behaviour.

Fauci was wrong to lie at the beginning because he feared PPE would be hoarded and medical staff would have no access to any.

But the message from the scientists has been consistent.  Wash your hands, cover your mouth if you have to cough or sneeze and stay at home.

It's the media commentators who are muddying the message.
