"Dapper Dan" Hogan Dies Of Bomb Wounds (Known as the “Irish Godfather”, Hogan was a principal figure in the Twin Cities underworld during the 1920s. He operated the Green Lantern Saloon on Wabasha Street in downtown St. Paul. The establishment catered to crooks, bootleggers and shady characters associated with organized crime. The Green Lantern operated as a speakeasy and an illegal gambling casino, as well as a front for laundering stolen property and money among other things. On December 4, 1928, Dapper Dan got behind the wheel of his Paige coupe and turned on the ignition. A bomb located beneath the floorboards detonated and blew off his right leg. He slipped into a coma at the hospital and died nine hours after the blast. He was given a funeral worthy of Prohibition-era Chicago and was buried in Calvary Cemetery)

I Cheated and Lied - While former North Carolina Senator John Edwards was campaigning for the 2008 Presidential office The National Enquirer began a series of reports alleging an adulterous affair between Edwards and former campaign worker Rielle Hunter. By July 2008, several news media outlets speculated that Edwards' chances for the Vice Presidency as well as other positions such as the Attorney General were harmed by the allegations, which now included that he fathered a child with Hunter and had visited her and the baby girl at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California. However, the story was not widely covered by the press for some time, until, after initially denying the allegations, Edwards admitted the affair. On January 21, 2010, John Edwards issued a press release to admit that he fathered Hunter's child.

The Lusitania Is Sunk; 1,000 Probably Are Lost (The sinking of the Cunard ocean liner RMS Lusitania occurred on Friday, 7 May 1915 during the First World War, as Germany waged submarine warfare against the United Kingdom which had implemented a naval blockade of Germany. The ship was identified and torpedoed by the German U-boat U-20 and sank in 18 minutes, and also took on a heavy starboard list. The vessel went down 11 miles off the Old Head of Kinsale, Ireland, killing 1,198 and leaving 761 survivors. The sinking turned public opinion in many countries against Germany, contributed to the American entry into World War I and became an iconic symbol in military recruiting campaigns of why the war was being fought)
