Nickels don’t contain that much nickel. One of the most interesting facts about nickels is that they don’t contain that much nickel. Nickels are five-cent coins that are created by the United States Mint. Even though they are named nickels, they are actually composed of 75% copper, and 25% nickel. During World War II (1942 to 1945), the five-cent coin was made of an alloy of copper, manganese, and silver. Nickel was kept aside for use in the war effort.

Play-Doh wasn’t always a children’s plaything. In fact, it was first developed as wallpaper cleaner!  It wasn’t until the manufacturer realized that the non-toxic nature of the product would make a great children’s toy that the whole aim of the product changed.

Recycling just one tin can saves enough energy to watch television for 3 hours. Yup, that’s how important recycling is! In fact, recycling an aluminum can into a new one takes just 5% of the energy required to produce one normally. Or, put another way, that one, small act of recycling saves the equivalent of half a gallon of gasoline in expended energy that would otherwise have gone into making a new can from scratch. The average person has the chance to recycle 25,000 cans in their lifetime – that’s 75,000 hours of television!

Santa Claus was issued a pilot’s license from the U.S. government in 1927

"Santa Claus receives aeroplane pilot's license from Assistant Secretary of Commerce. Although there may not be sufficient snow for his reindeer sleigh, Santa Claus will still be able to deliver his load of presents on time this Christmas by using the air route. The old saint called at the Commerce Department in Washington today where he is shown receiving an aeroplane pilot's license from Assistant Secretary of Commerce. for Aeronautics William P. MacCracken, while Clarence M. Young (right) Director of Aeronautics, Department of Commerce, looks on. Airway maps and the assurance that the lights would be burning on the airways Christmas Eve were also given to Santa"

The Three Musketeers doesn’t live up to its name. The famous Three Musketeers candy bar originally had vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate flavors in one! Thus the name Three Musketeers. However, during World War II, they changed to only chocolate due to rations.

Underneath the streets of Beijing, there are over a million people who live in nuclear bunkers (In the late ’60s and ‘70s, anticipating the devastation of a Cold War-nuclear fallout, Chairman Mao directed Chinese cities to construct apartments with bomb shelters capable of withstanding the blast of a nuclear bomb. In Beijing alone, roughly 10,000 bunkers were promptly constructed. But when China opened its door to the broader world in the early ’80s, Beijing’s defense department seized the opportunity to lease the shelters to private landlords, eager to profit from converting the erstwhile fallout hideaways into tiny residential units. Now when night falls, more than a million people—mostly migrant workers and students from rural areas—vanish from Beijing’s bustling streets into the underground universe)

Valentine's Day started with the Romans. The day derives from Lupercalia, a raucous Roman festival on February 15th where men stripped naked and spanked young maidens in the hopes of increasing their fertility.
