Grits derives from the Old English word "grytt," meaning coarse meal. Grits are made from “hominy”, dried kernels of corn with the hull and germ removed. The hominy is ground into grits, then boiled in water or other liquids. Grits may be either white or yellow, depending on the color of the corn. The most common version in supermarkets is “quick grits”, but grits are also available as stone-ground or old-fashioned grits. It’s also possible to find instant grits which are very finely ground. Many southerners don’t consider instant grits to be true grits as they don't produce a good texture and are not as flavorful as stone ground grits.

Hawaiian pizza was created in Ontario, Canada (Sam Panopoulos, a Greek-born Canadian, created the first Hawaiian pizza at the Satellite Restaurant in Chatham, Ontario, Canada in 1962. Inspired in part by his experience preparing Chinese dishes which commonly mix sweet and savory flavors, Panopoulos experimented with adding pineapple, ham, bacon and other toppings. These additions were not initially very popular. The addition of pineapple to the traditional mix of tomato sauce and cheese, sometimes with ham or sometimes with bacon, soon became popular locally and eventually became a staple offering of pizzerias around the world. In regards to the naming of the dish, Panopoulos chose Hawaiian after the brand of canned pineapple they used)

Sam Panopoulos died in 2017.............................

There are so many choices when it comes to pizza! It's one of my favorite foods. And yes, I can eat cold pizza for breakfast. LOL

Iceberg lettuce supposedly got it's name from the fact that California growers started shipped it covered with heaps of crushed ice in the 1920s. It had previously been generally called Crisphead lettuce.

Kaelin's restaurant in Louisville, Ky was where the first sandwich to actually be called a "cheeseburger" was made. Charles Kaelin claims to have invented the cheese-topped burger in 1934 because he wanted, reports Louisville writer Robin Garr, to "add a new tang to the hamburger." This is the earliest example of a menu claiming to be "the birthplace of the cheeseburger."

Lion King was originally called “King of the Jungle” before they realized that lions don’t actually live in jungles
