TGIF (is the name of an American prime time television programming block that has aired on ABC at various points since the late 1980s. The name comes from the initials of the popular phrase "Thank God It's Friday"; however, the stars of the lineup touted the initialism meaning "Thank Goodness It's Funny." In its various incarnations, the block mainly featured situation comedies aimed at a family audience, and served as a lead-in to the long-running newsmagazine 20/20 (which has been part of ABC's Friday night schedule since September 1987, two years prior to the original launch of TGIF). The block initially premiered on September 22, 1989, marking one of the first attempts by a major network to brand a programming block (a concept that was concurrently becoming popular among cable networks at the time of its inception), with the goal of encouraging young viewers to watch the entire lineup, instead of just a particular show. The "TGIF" block dominated the ratings in the 18–49 demographic for most of the 1990s. However, ratings began declining during the latter half of the decade due partly to Fridays becoming more common for social outings among segments of the block's key demographic as well as the loss and aging quality of many of the lineup's signature shows, culminating in the original incarnation ending after eleven years on September 8, 2000.

"Un-Break My Heart" (1996) - is a song recorded by American singer Toni Braxton for her second studio album, Secrets. It was released as the second single from the album in October 21, 1996, through LaFace Records. The song is a ballad about a "blistering heartbreak" in which the singer begs a former lover to return and undo the pain he has caused. It reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart the week of Dec. 7. 1996 and stayed #1 for 11 weeks. It won Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 39th Annual Grammy Awards in 1997. It has sold over 10 million copies worldwide nearly 3 million in the United States alone, making it one of the best selling singles of all time. Originally, Braxton didn't like the song and didn't want to do it. Later it became her signature song.

Will & Grace premiered in September 1998. It is an American sitcom television series, set in New York City, that focuses on the friendship between best friends Will Truman (Eric McCormack), a gay lawyer, and Grace Adler (Debra Messing), a straight interior designer. The show was broadcast on NBC from September 21, 1998, to May 18, 2006, for a total of eight seasons, and returned to NBC on September 28, 2017 and ended on April 23, 2020. Will & Grace has been one of the most successful television series with gay principal characters.

One of my favorite shows, couldn't get enough of Karen and Jack..........started to watch the reboot but since I loved the ending of the original so much and I felt like it was all forgotten, I just couldn't get into it and it didn't have the same feel.......

X-INXS (is Australian rock band INXS's seventh studio album, released on 25 September 1990. The follow-up to the massive seller Kick, X scored hits with "Suicide Blonde" and "Disappear". Both singles were later used in the soundtrack to the 1991 American teen comedy Mystery Date. Two other singles from X were "Bitter Tears" and "By My Side" but they had less chart success. A fifth single, "The Stairs", was only issued in the Netherlands to coincide with the release of the Live Baby Live album)

Calling it a night.........................

Hi Dorie and welcome to the forum and our Alpha Game!

In the Alpha Game someone has picked a topic and we try to post things - alphabetically - to do with that topic. We do 10 rounds for the topic and then the person who posted the last "Z" gets to choose the next topic. Generally, we're not supposed to repeat a topic but it's getting harder and harder to find good topics since we're now on our 159th topic. When choosing a topic we have to keep in mind the hard letters such as J, Q, X and Z and that's what makes finding a good topic hard.

Click here for "rules" found in the first posting of this thread. Some of the rules have changed out of necessity.

The topic we're currently working with is The 1990s. What you posted about apples is a very interesting fact but it doesn't seem to qualify because there is nothing to indicate it occurred in the 1990s and it doesn't follow alphabetically. Since the last post was about X-INXS by Tammy we're looking for something that starts with Y.

It may seem a little hard to play but once you get the hang of it it's a lot of fun. And we learn some stuff along the way.

Good luck and jump in when you have something to add.

"Weird Al" Yankovic released his seventh studio album in 1992 - Off the Deep End. This was the first album self-produced by Yankovic, after six albums with Rick Derringer. Recorded between June 1990 and January 1992, the album was a follow-up to the unsuccessful soundtrack to Yankovic's 1989 film UHF. Off the Deep End and its lead single "Smells Like Nirvana" helped to revitalize Yankovic's career after a lull following his last hit single, "Fat", in 1988.
