Eventing (is an equestrian event where a single horse and rider combine and compete against other competitors across the three disciplines of dressage, cross-country, and show jumping. This event has its roots in a comprehensive cavalry test that required mastery of several types of riding. The competition may be run as a one-day event, where all three events are completed in one day or a three-day event, which is more commonly now run over four days, with dressage on the first two days, followed by cross-country the next day and then show jumping in reverse order on the final day. Eventing was previously known as Combined Training, and the name persists in many smaller organizations. The term "Combined Training" is sometimes confused with the term "Combined Test", which refers to a combination of just two of the phases, most commonly dressage and show jumping)

Individual All Around (is an artistic gymnastics event held at the Summer Olympics. The event was first held for men at the second modern Olympics in 1900, and has been held every Games since. The women's competition was added in 1952. The  all-around title combines the scores of all four apparatus for women – vault, bars, beam and floor – and all six for men – floor, pommel horse, vault, rings, parallel bars and high bar to determine the winner)

The men's apparatus............

The defending Olympic Gold Medalist is Japan's Kohei Uchimura..................

The women's apparatus.......................

The defending Olympic Gold Medalist is United States' Simone Biles................

Neither will be defending their gold medals in Tokyo...........................

Kohei had qualified for the 2020 Olympics as an apparatus specialist on the horizontal bar after a tiebreak in the selection process worked in his favor. He has expressed earlier that he could still contribute positively to the Japanese team but perhaps not with the kind of grueling physical requirements that are necessary for an all-around anymore.

Simone withdrew herself from the individual all around (which will be held tomorrow) yesterday. She had withdrawn from the team competition earlier in the week citing mental health issues.
