There would be a total demand collapse if it reached that point. Starving hordes would swarm out of the densely populated cities, and strip the rural land bare like locusts. Millions would either die in place or kill one another in "violent competition for dwindling resources".
Things would be like Zimbabwe or Venezuela. Or the Weimar Republic.
But it would certainly thin out the population. Only the meanest, baddest, most ruthless predators would remain when the dust settles.

Now that's a name I haven't heard in quite a while. I used to hear people from all over the world quote him but that was 12 ~ 15 or more years ago.

Venezuela is the one I was mainly thinking about. They used to be quite a rich country... probably the most prosperous in Central America... but now look at them.
