Obama with a bit of humor in Chicago ...

"When I look at Merrick Garland, yeah, he's a white guy but he's a really outstanding jurist. Sorry."

"At no point did I say: 'I need a black lesbian from Skokie in that slot. Can you find me one?'" Mr. Obama said. "That’s not how I approached it."

it seems the insidious creep of fundamentalism works well with texting. Text  talaq talaq talaq  and you're wife is divorced, I suppose it does save on lawyer fees and such, so that's one plus. Nowhere in the article is any mention of the wife having the same option, I guess the thought just wouldn't even occur to anyone.

Given the Senate he might just as well have nominated a Black Lesbian from Skokie, preferably one who votes a strait communist party ticket.

Well that would have given them a solid reason to deny confirmation instead of floundering about and coming up with no excuse for the lack of action.

I can understand why the Republicans don't want to confirm another Justice, but the refusal to even talk to the man and perhaps go through the motions before denying, is another manifestation of their lack of respect and total rejection of the President, from immediately after the first election and here the NO! just a couple of hours after the death of Scalia.

Scalia died, and he managed to die during the term of a Democratic president. Obama nominated a well respected judge.  I understand that the requirement that they approve an appointment gives them veto power, but not even holding hearings sounds as if they don't want to do their job. If this was 1965, he would have been in office already.

Looks like they're at least talking to the guy now.

That does count for progress.
