God bless the people of El Paso Texas. God bless the people of Dayton, Ohio.

I would be devastated if multiple mass murderers left manifestos praising me as their inspiration. But it doesn’t seem to bother you. You’re sick.

Am a resident of Ohio and rode through Dayton just a few days ago. With friends in Dayton, am often visiting therein.
As to our president, he is like a diamond in the rough. He has never said he was a politician, nor has he ever been known to show forth a state of perfect diplomacy. However, noting the extremes of our party politics, it is no wonder why there are more declared independents than the numbers of both Republicans and Democrats.
With that being said, gun-control laws are at an all time high and have not resolved our problems with gun violence. Owing to my age, am at an advantage of having seen how and why the problem is growing.
There was a time when mental-illness was a minor issue when viewed statistically. It later became more apparent as 1 in 10 had recognized issues. In the previous decade, mental-illness was recognized in 1 of 5 persons. Of late, these stats are now 1 in 4 people.
The problem has never been guns. The crux has always been keeping them out of the hands of people not having the mental capacity of self-control and lacking the moral persuasion towards proper use, safety, and respect.
Decades ago, such people were known as schizophrenic coupled with other delusions. Now the category is bi-polar, bouncing between mania and depression.
Crime is the outcome of an uncontrolled mental-illness.
As we closed the institutions and became reliant upon doctors and hospitals to care for the mentally ill, we found the system faulty when physicians refuse to disclose a patient's condition due to their hypocratic oath of non-disclosure and doctor/patient privacy.
Most often, the mental patient cannot be found by any amount of a background check.
Our only defense, as law-abiding citizens, is to carry a legally concealed handgun to protect one another.
Am retired and still a member of the F.O.P.A (Fraternal Order of Police Association). The problem is not with our constitution, nor with guns. The problem is with the people and an ever growing amount of mental illness.

Study the geneology of a family and the dna and you may discover the core of mental problems. Add any amount of drug use, whether recreational, or addiction, and the trigger for such mental illness may well become apparent. Alcohol is well-known to alter ones own psychological normalcy, let alone the use of drugs.

You're absolutely right! The mental institutions, or insane asylums, should have been cleaned up, not closed down.

As we may recall, the institutions (state hospitals) were closed as a financial government cut-back. Likewise, the mentally ill being held for non-violent crimes within correctional facilities were also released. Basically, our own government created the first wave of the homeless living on our streets (in the alleys). Many comitted more violent crimes for the purpose of being incarcerated again to have medical care, a warm place to sleep, and three meals a day.

Bush not renewing the ban on "assault type weapons" had nothing to do with today's carnage?
Trump rolling back background checks had nothing to do with today's carnage?
Trumps public comments and rantings have nothing to do with today's carnage?
There are lots of reason for today's carnage, Trump is not helping the situation.

We may realize we are all simply dancing around the real issue.
What was at the root of the assault weapons ban was the definition of an assault weapon vs.the outward appearance of the weapon. Hence, is it a military automatic weapon, or a similar looking weapon as a semi-automatic? An error in definition can cause an honest person to be labeled a criminal.
It is hoped we can rise above emotions and apply definitive information to our laws.
Likewise, whether an elected official, or a citizen at the grass roots level, we are in need of a greater amount of intelligence than mere emotional outbursts.
Having worked with the mentally ill, mockery does not assist any solutions toward a normalcy of behavior.
We have more than enough gun laws. A person intent upon an action that exceeds the realm of common sense is not concerned with laws. Laws will never stop the carnage we are witnessing.
We need to eliminate mental illness and agree on the right path of moral integrity for all mankind.

Can impossible goals be achieved? Yes, as nothing (no thing) is impossible. It just takes longer to achieve the impossible dream.
When it comes to changing the behavior of the human race, we will be altered by a greater civilization of intelligent beings. The crisis apparent in our society has taken us closer to chaos and extinction than ever before.
For human beings to be accepted as participants in a greater sphere of the universe, we need to be assisted in our evolution. With, or without our pemission, our destiny will be made manifest.
