Those fires thousands of miles away may lead to fabulous sunsets on this side of the continent and at the same time serve to emphasize how remote events affect us, we are not an isolated island.

2023 spring crop of spinach on Dec 2, zone 5b. That's about 20 sq feet of spinach.

20 sq feet of spinach seems like a lot and it's not a measurement I've heard of before. Is that an recognized standard adopted by the IOOLG?

Then you mention Spring Crop ... does that mean this needs to grow for that many months yet?

This is 20 sq ft out of a 4' X 8' rise bed, i.e. 32 sq ft. Rows are 6"  apart, seeds were planted about 1.5" apart.

Planted in October and will over winter under snow and freezing weather. Early spring 2023 these plants will take off and provide early greens. We have been over wintering spinach this way for years.

Spinach that has gone through freeze cycles is very tasty.

A post from years ago we tried under a cover for the winter. Now we don't bother with any sort of cover.

who knew! I thought spinach was seeded in the spring and ... voila ... in a couple of weeks you have a nice crop.

I suppose the warming climate helps with not needing a cover.
