The U.S. death toll from COVID-19 topped 800,000 on Tuesday, a once-unimaginable figure seen as doubly tragic, given that more than 200,000 of those lives were lost after the vaccine became available practically for the asking last spring.

Geisinger is a major hospital system in NE Pennsylvania. My daughter is a nurse manager there and what this woman suggests is correct.
My daughter, she managers one of the covid wings.

I take it the load is a bit lighter now, at least here in the US and barring another big uptick, thanks to all those workers who've persevered.

WHO: Nearly 15 million deaths associated with COVID-19
LONDON (AP) - The World Health Organization estimates that nearly 15 million people were killed either by coronavirus or by its impact on overwhelmed health systems in the past two years, more than double the official death toll of 6 million.
