Somehow we managed to scale the water tower, it got to be a regular thing after partaking. Up there, our legs dangling down over the edge, we watch blood-red sunset clouds tangle with radar on top of the hill and wait for speckled birds coming home to roost, circling high above for their turn to land.

Here comes the next one screaming strangely low above us, over the base now he cuts in his afterburner, AB flaming he soars straight up up into the sky, rattling everything below including the Base Commander's windows.

He's heading Home.100 missions, none to go. Worth the reprimand.

Red skies turn dark. Headlights pull into the bungalows below, it's a jeep.

Gunter! Are you here? Gunter!

It's the Lieutenant. Now I could have just ignored it, make like we're not there, but Duty Calls. I climb down.

What are you doing up there? and before I can come up with an answer: The transmitter is off the air!

Back at the station I admire the blinking lights on the transmitter - staff on duty looks at me expectantly - check to make sure everything's plugged in, turn everything off, look at the studio clock for some time and turn it on again. We're On Air.

[I don't think they call it reboot back then ... mmm ... that's correct, came into use shortly after:

We see written evidence of reboot used as a verb beginning in the early 1970s, and within a few years, it was also being used as a noun.

somewhere in the news today ...

Morgues. Did you know cruise ships are required to have morgues on board? It makes sense when you think about it. There are 3000 guests on a ship, lots of elderly people, some have always wanted to go on a cruise before they die. It's bound to happen. You're in the middle of the ocean and have a heart attack. Dead. What will they do with your body? That's what happened to this woman's husband. They moved the body to the morgue.

Have you ever seen pictures of a cruise ship's morgue on their website? Do you do due diligence before going on a cruise to make sure their morgue is in order? This woman did not. The morgue itself was not in working order. Instead, and without her knowledge, the body was moved to a coke pepsi drinks cooler while the ship continued with the cruise.

There is more to the story in between, but when they arrive at the port the the undertakers discover that the body is no longer in enough shape to hold the open casket funeral the widow had been planning during the remainder of the cruise.

Heart attacks often leave the deceased a blue (or blue-green) color, the morticians have to drain fluids and apply make-up. However, other things go on after death that cause issues for the fanciful when not impeded.

new york new york

In Berlin they glued themselves to roads, they blocked rush-hour traffic in DC and in Portugal someone created a pile of 650000 cigarette butts. Here in the City climate activists spray painted bank locations and created work for the janitors.
