I may be an innocent, but I believe it possible.  Maybe even by computer, if you can trust the programmers to set the parameters correctly.

I suppose you can in some areas, but not ours. At least it did not work out that way.

I presume that who selects the "select committee" matters.

Yes and the party in power usually has control of that.

And that's why it ends up being cruelly gerrymandered.  There needs to be a totally independent organization assigned to draw the Congressional districts.  Not sure how we could achieve it.

We had one but in the end they were affiliated with a party and they claimed they drew districts based on numbers, but what they did was split up blocks of the other party. That way instead of two districts one D and one R, they ended up with three odd districts that are all the same party.

That's sad, but that's how the the winning party works to achieve maximum gerrymandering.  Assure the public that it's independent then pack it with cronies.

That means we have some states that are close to one party running the whole state, which is never good, even if it’s the party you favor.  They tend to make bad decisions when there are no checks or balances.  Eventually, the people rebel.

That's a good analysis of the problem I see.  We lack the balance and compromise that good legislation requires.

There is no balance or compromise anymore.
