Facebook Suppressed Breitbart News Traffic by Twenty Percent

The Wall Street Journal has published internal material from anonymous sources at Facebook revealing that the company introduced tools that suppressed the traffic of Breitbart News by 20 percent, and other conservative publishers by double-digit margins.

The company introduced two tools after the 2016 election that disproportionately harmed conservative publishers. The Journal highlights internal Facebook research showing that if both tools were removed, it would increase traffic to Breitbart News by 20 percent, the Washington Times by 18 percent, Western Journal by 16 percent, and the Epoch Times by 11 percent. Facebook eventually removed one of the tools while keeping the other — but it is unclear which of them had the most impact on traffic.

According to the Wall Street Journal, one of Facebook’s researchers feared, “We could face significant backlash for having ‘experimented’ with distribution at the expense of conservative publishers.”

The story also revealed that Breitbart News is relegated to a “second tier” of the platform’s News Tab, where it gets less exposure than its corporate establishment competitors. On top of this, Facebook is directly paying Breitbart News’s competitors, establishment media conglomerates including the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal and the New York Times — while offering no such compensation to Breitbart News.

Despite Facebook’s favoritism and financial support of its establishment competitors, Breitbart News continues to be wildly popular with Facebook’s users. In August, data from Facebook-owned social media analytics company Crowdtangle showed Breitbart News demolishes its competitors in generating engagement from Facebook’s users. The data showed Breitbart earned more Facebook engagement than The New York Times, the Washington Post, and HuffPo combined. Breitbart surpassed the Wall Street Journal and CNN by healthy margins as well.

Tom Cotton on Suppression of Breitbart: Facebook Acts Like a ‘Wing of the Democratic Party’

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) slammed Facebook today in a comment to Breitbart News, arguing that it is playing favorites with political parties in the United States and should lose its Section 230 protections as a consequence.

“Facebook has been intentionally suppressing traffic to Breitbart,” said Sen. Cotton in a statement.

“Not because of policy violations, but to protect liberal politicians. Any company that acts like a wing of the Democratic Party should not enjoy Section 230 protections.”

The Arkansas senator made the comment in a statement to Breitbart News following the bombshell news that Facebook introduced tools after the 2016 election that slashed traffic to conservative publishers.

Facebook is very political and all financial.

And thus should have their 230 protections removed.

They meddled in the 2016 and 2020 elections and they continue to ban Trump's account and many other Republicans.

They need to be held accountable but under the 230 protection... it's impossible so remove the section 230 protections and let private markets deal with private markets in the private sector without federal government protection!!!

I’m not sure who like Facebook. I was communicating with some young adults. They don’t use Facebook and basically hate it.  So who is using it?

Well, many Conservatives have stopped using them... and a few Democrats as well.

But everybody should stop using them because:

1) They censor Conservatives so Conservatives should all drop their Facebook accounts. Many have already.

2) They lie to the Democrats and hide information that should have been made available to them, but was hidden from them. Thus Democrats who don't like being lied to and have information hidden from them should also drop their Facebook accounts.

Facebook's revenue is from their advertisements. If everybody stopped using them... they wouldn't have anybody to advertise to and thus no revenue!!!

BIG HINT for those who despise Facebook!!!

Then there's this... the truth tends to piss off the liberals who don't want the truth to be made known!

Marlow: Triggered Leftist Facebook Employees Whined to Their Bosses to Censor Breitbart

Breitbart News editor-in-chief Alex Marlow, author of Breaking the News: Exposing the Establishment Media’s Hidden Deals and Secret Corruption, appeared on Monday’s broadcast of Fox News Channel’s Tucker Carlson Tonight and reacted to triggered leftist Facebook employees who reportedly complained to their bosses with the aim of censoring Breitbart.

Carlson said, “So The Wall Street Journal got ahold of a bunch of internal documents from Facebook from the company’s internal racial justice chat room.” He went on to say:

They found among many other things Facebook employees are obsessed with the site Breitbart. They hate Breitbart. Breitbart shouldn’t be allowed to talk. Why is it on Facebook? So apparently Facebook cut traffic to Breitbart News by as much as a fifth without telling them.

Carlson asked, “So, were you surprised? I was a little shocked by how open they were; were you surprised?” Marlow said:

I was shocked only by the framing of it. The Wall Street Journal put out the story as if it was going to be some sort of damnation hit piece on Breitbart. And it contained a smoking gun in it, which is that these woke SJWs had pressured Facebook’s senior management to diminish, not just Breitbart, but traffic across conservative media—deliberately cutting down their most engaged users to favor corporate, billionaire-backed multinational conglomerates to promote their news over Breitbart’s, which is accurate and incredibly popular and was thriving, if not dominating, on the platform.

He added, “There’s literally billions of Facebook pages and this one page, for whatever reason, triggers the left at such an unbelievable degree that they have to whine to their bosses to get us censored. Thankfully, it hasn’t totally worked – yet, but every Republican member of Congress should take note of this. This came before the 2020 election, Tucker. All their criticisms of us were before 2020. This changed votes, and it changed minds.”

And this one really says it all... they blame Apple for their sluggish ad sales! (* ROFLMAO *)

They can adversely affect sales of just about any Conservative entity they decide to attack... but when their own revenue turns sour... they blame another big tech entity! (* DOUBLE ROFLMAO *)

‘Headwinds:’ Facebook Blame Apple’s iPhone Privacy Policy for Sluggish Ad Sales

During its recent earnings call, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated that Apple’s privacy rules are “negatively affecting” the social media giant’s sales growth. Zuckerberg continued Facebook’s line of attack on Apple, reiterating his claim that consumer-friendly privacy policies don’t only impact the Masters of the Universe, but also small businesses.

The Wall Street Journal reports that social media giant Facebook recently reported lower than expected growth in the third quarter of 2021. Facebook’s third-quarter revenue reached $29.01 billion, an increase of 35 percent from the year previously but below the expected $29.56 billion that analysts were expecting. The increase was the smallest since last year’s fourth quarter and below the 52 percent rate over the first half of this year.

During the call, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg blamed Apple for the company’s slow growth, saying that Apple is “negatively affecting” Facebook but he believes that the social media giant will be able to “navigate” the challenges that Apple is presenting with its new App Tracking Transparency features that have made it harder for Facebook to target ads towards users.

Zuckerberg stated:

As expected, we did experience revenue headwinds this quarter, including from Apple’s changes that are not only negatively affecting our business, but millions of small businesses in what is already a difficult time for them in the economy. Sheryl and Dave will talk about this more later, but the bottom line is we expect we’ll be able to navigate these headwinds over time with investments that we’re already making today.

Zuckerberg claims that Apple’s new privacy rules are making “e-commerce and customer acquisition less effective on the web,” but he believes that Facebook could still benefit from the situation as “solutions that allow businesses to set up shop right inside our apps will become increasingly attractive.” His criticisms are a continuation of Facebook’s PR war against again.

There are more active sites than Breitbart. Why focus on that one?

Apple respects user privacy.  Facebook doesn’t. They want everything under their control and life doesn’t work that way.
