- Trump filed lawsuit against CNN in federal court in Florida on Monday
- It accused the news organization of defamation and seeks $475M in damages
- It said CNN had stepped up its campaign against Trump in recent months 'as CNN fears the plaintiff will run for president in 2024,' reads the complaint
- Trump called it the first of many against 'fake news media' companies
- And he said he would take against the House January 6 committee

Former President Donald Trump on Monday accused CNN in federal court of defamation, launching legal proceedings seeking $475 million in punitive damages.

His complaint says the national news organization used its power and reach to defeat him politically.

And the court document claims that CNN has stepped up its attacks as Trump mulls whether to run for the presidency again in 2024.

Trump said he was proud to file a lawsuit standing up to the mainstream media.

'In the coming weeks and months we will also be filing lawsuits against a large number of other fake news media companies for their lies, defamation, and wrongdoing, including as it pertains to "The Big Lie," that they used so often in reference to their disinformation attack on presidential election of 2020,' he said in an emailed statement.

It came after his lawyers filed a suit in Florida federal court.

'Beyond simply highlighting any negative information about the plaintiff and ignoring all positive information about him, CNN has sought to use its massive influence— purportedly as a "trusted" news source—to defame the plaintiff in the minds of its viewers and readers for the purpose of defeating him politically, culminating in CNN claiming credit for "[getting] Trump out" in the 2020 presidential election,' said the complaint written by Trump's lawyers, and filed in federal court in Florida.

It accused the news channel of repeatedly defaming him, including comparisons with Hitler and calling him a 'racist,' 'Russian lackey,' and 'insurrectionist.'

It highlights on-air segments and written pieces published on CNN.com discussing Trump's rejection of the 2020 election result as 'the big lie' - a term coined in German by Hitler in his writings incited hatred against Jews.

The 29-page complaint claims CNN has stepped up its attacks in recent months amid speculation that Trump is preparing to announce a 2024 run for president

'CNN’s highly defamatory and persistent association of the plaintiff to Hitler and Hitler’s "Big Lie" is no mistaken misappropriation,' reads the complaint.

'It is wanton and malicious "reporting" intended to feed a narrative and to achieve a desired end: to cause readers and viewers to associate the plaintiff with the lowest of low, to fear him, to not vote for him, and to support campaigns against him.'

It marks the latest salvo in Trump's long-running feud with CNN.

He regularly encourages rally crowds to chant: 'CNN sucks.'

Although Trump has branded multiple outlets as 'fake news,' he has reserved particular fury for CNN since before even becoming president.

'Your organization is terrible,' he told Jim Acosta, CNN's senior White House correspondent in January 2017, just before taking office. 'You are fake news!'

He is right to sue them. They can dislike them all they want and post true stories. But intentionally preventing anyone from pursing any job, political or otherwise, through written lies is libelous and illegal.  As the article says, it’s an uphill battle. He is a public figure and a news outlet can have an opinion. But it should be labeled opinion, not fact.

He will not win any money from them but if he can get them to stop lying about him that is progress.  Being an election denier, as they call him, is not illegal.  Of it turns out he can prove it was based on fact, then they have indeed defamed him and should be held accountable.  Liberal judges will throw this out and SCOTUS will not take it up.

He’s making it public. He’s smart to bring the discussion out in the open. There is no way to hide behind their papers.  The  secrets they want to hide become the news. He is a brilliant strategist.

Trump has been aware of their attacktics (attack tactics) for the past 6 years.

The liberal news media and Democrats have made over 300 shots over his bow since even before he took office... but none of them hit the target.

Devin Nunes showed him unredacted evidence of their illegal activity in his first week or two in office.

But even he had a bit of a problem coming to fathom the actual depth and width of the swamp in an effort to unseat a sitting POTUS.

Then, he devised a way to snap back at them, that he actually enjoyed because he could see them squirm each time he called them out. And it was watching them squirm because he was right in calling them out. That is still ongoing today.

He's totally aware of it, but yet they continue to use the same old tactics to try and catch him in hopes of a different outcome.

Sadly, he has the upper hand and is making fools out of all of them... many probably don't even realize it.... while others just get pissed even more and escalate their attacks against them.

The mist barre thing is once he’s done running and is out of politics as a candidate, they will be kissing his butt again because he’s rich and famous, and they like being around rich people.

But even then, they will be disappointed because neither he nor any of his family members will forget all the hell they put them through for 7 years and counting!!!

In other words, they've lost their cash cow regardless of how they try to kiss up to him in the future.
